Downloads Buggy

The download feature of the app is extremely buggy. Seems to download videos. But later when going to view them, they’re not downloaded. Please fix this Udemy.

Some good content and some great content in the courses. The content creators are generally excellent.

Good content, somewhat let down by a lacklustre app.

With the amount money this app likely turns over, it really should be better.

Download courses

Got this app so I could do work while away without wifi. I spend hours downloading only to find 90% of the time it tries to get me to log in or the downloads have been removed. So what’s the point???

Good content but video downloading is still broken

Whenever I buy a course and ask to download it, the app shows that it’s downloading all videos in parallel. However, none of them is actually downloaded. The only workaround I found is cancelling all, removing the entire downloaded content and manually downloading the videos one by one. Absolutely crazy waste of time when there are 100+ videos in the course. This was going on for years and still hasn’t been fixed.
It’s really disappointing for an app that teaches a lot of software development courses. Please add an option to download the videos one by or make it your default behaviour.

Charged for the course but never got it.

Udemy charged me for a course and They never got the course. I submitted a ticket for customer support and it has being dragging for three weeks and never got my refund or the course.

Great content but the player is awful

First time I wrote a review and I’m just hoping developers will read it.

First the good, Udemy has a great spectrum of interesting courses with great authors so the content is there.

Now the (very) bad, the player is hot garbage and is, to me, the main feature of the app that should be invested on to be flawless.

The player constantly pauses, loses progress and I have to kill the app countless of time to be able to resume the course. Even by doing so, at least half of the time my progress on the video is lost and I have to slide through the timeline to hopefully get back to where I was. Sliding the timeline gives me PTSD as I always get the spinning wheel of death and the player is most of the time unable to start playing, and again I have to kill the app (rinse and repeat). This is killing the learning experience and my motivation takes a hit.

One last thing, downloading the courses doesn’t even prevent these issues.

Reading comments elsewhere tells me it’s not a “me” problem. Please, I beg the developers to fix this, you will be losing customers otherwise…

Sign-in not working at all

I am able to login in website with same email and password but not able to sign in mobile application.
So this mobile application is useless if i am not able to sign in.

Slow to download for offline use

There are some excellent courses on Udemy and providing you use the discount codes they offer great value.

Overall I’m very positive about this product however it is let down by downloading issues. I have a fairly up to date iPhone, excellent internet connection at work and home but still I have to mess around for ages to download a course. I have the latest version of the app, I’ve cancelled download and re-downloaded, reinstalled the app etc etc so I’m fairly sure the issue doesn’t lie at my end

The browser experience is absolute trash

I’m downloading this app because I’m basically forced to, given the quality of the experience watching courses on my desktop. I bought course for the first time on Udemy, and I was confused as to why the videos appeared to be in 480p/360p quality, despite me setting it to 1080p. I did some research and found a reddit post about a month old, with frequent comments on it up to today, with people experiencing the same issue. Udemy support has responded to the concerns of these people by saying that fixing this web playback issue is “not high priority” since they want to prioritize mobile app development. I cannot understand this logic. The whole point of my purchase was to watch tutorials at my desktop. When I cannot see the text clearly, it largely ruins the experience of having video tutorials in the first place.

Even if Udemy fixes this issue, I don’t believe I can trust Udemy to provide me with a high quality experience in the future. When the main purpose of your service is to stream videos that educators want to provide to learners, actively ignoring a core issue with the browser streaming service is something that I completely do not understand.

Incredibly buggy but great it exists

I’m incredibly glad this app exists as a number of learning sites don’t have one. Having airplay is also incredibly useful so that I can stream a course to to while I’m having my morning coffee. However there are 3 major bugs I constantly hit:
1. Airplay fails to play the next video maybe 40% of the time one ends
2. Airplay skips over videos. Probably 90% of the time, when it doesn’t just stop working at the end of a video it will skip the next video and play the one after
3. It starts playing at random while my iPad is in standby, hours after I stopped a video. I’ve had it twice where I’ve walked into a room to hear a video playing with my iPad cover closed, the day after watching a video. I’ve also has a congratulations on watching 100 hours email while on holiday because it started and played an entire course days after I left.
Hopefully these bugs are fixed in time because I still love that it exists and kinda works

Frustrating app

My experience of Udemy itself and the courses has been great so far. However I can’t say the same for the app. I simply want to cast the videos to my TV from the app the same way I do with Netflix etc. 2 out of 3 times the video wont cast and the TV says it’s waiting for the lecture.. but the phone says it’s playing on the TV or the phone video just flickers. I can’t discern a pattern or reason for this and it is very frustrating. This has happened with 3 courses by different creators so far, some have resources attached and others don’t. When it does actually work it’s great.

And I only just got the app today so there’s no point uninstalling and reinstalling it.
