Same issue here
In general I am also satisfied costumer of Astril vpn while living in China. Lately though, it has been updated, worked better again, but now on screen logo is keep scrolling and turning on itself even if you shut it down and exit all the apps... new update soon?
Life saver in China, but getting stuck lately
Astrill is the only VPN that’s consistently worked in China for me. For the last week or two, though, it’s been getting stuck loading on the sign-in screen and I can’t turn it off. This means I can’t use any apps that require VPN, but I also can’t use apps that require the VPN to be off (WeChat, DiDi, etc.) while this is happening. I have to toggle the settings and restart my phone and sometimes that still doesn’t turn it off...my phone is effectively a brick until it finally disconnects.
Four stars because I’ve been using it for more than a year and it’s worked better than any other VPN I’ve tried. However, this bug is a major one and I really hope it can be fixed quickly!
Another (much more minor) quirk is that every location shows that it is connecting immediately, even if it doesn’t work. It would be nice to have some sort of indicator other than flipping to another app and trying it out until one works.
All in all, I absolutely recommend this app for use in China.

Crashes continuously
This app keeps crashing. I tried restarting it. I keep having to re-download it almost everyday because it’ll freeze. My phone has no issue like this with other apps. It started maybe an update ago.
Unstable on mobile
Works well on computers, but very unstable on mobile. Can’t turn off at times, and when connected it connection will just not work.

If you are looking for a VPN for China then i would look elsewhere. The app for the iphone crashes every few days by going grey and just spinning. Only way around this is to delete the app and reinstall and then it works again (if that doesnt bother you then go for it). Tech support suggested i dont use data roaming... handy when your from the uk and travelling to China haha. They also didnt mention this in their sales pitch that it wont work with data roaming on to travelling anywhere with is is a no go... unless u use wifi (we all know how reliable and fast that is when your on holiday or travelling).
I appreciate the above is not necessarily 1 star, more 3 star but the customer service is poor and the tech support ridiculous. They make you wait approx 5-10 mins for each reply (and this has happened during all 5 conversations. Email is worse, expect a reply to each part of the process every 2 hours). They also provide you with absolute rubbish in reply.
Because of this i have asked for a refund and guess what? 2 days since i emailed - no response. Make your own mind up with what kind of company this is just on that fact!

Good but Won’t Turn Off When I Need It To
I like how easy it is to connect to this app. The problem lately is that when I need to turn Astrill off, it keeps turning itself back on, and I have to waste time trying over and over in settings to toggle the VPN connect switch to OFF. In China, this means that lately (past two weeks) I’ve had to put my purchases back or forego the DiDi ride I was planning to take home—a big downer. Please fix this bug! Otherwise, Astrill is fast and reliable. Until this problem, I was liking it better than Express VPN or Nord (which is just useless in China).

Works okay but...
It works well enough in China and US, not super fast but better than express or nord. The biggest issue is the lackluster customer service. They genuinely don’t care about you. I was recommended by a friend and got a link for a free month which didn’t work, so I contacted them and they flatly told me just to pay for it and “thank you for understanding”. I bought a month anyways despite hesitations and after multiple inquired with them I always get hit with short non answers and thank you for understanding. Won’t be extending for the year.

APP is great
Astrill is now working well in China . The desktop has always been great in stealth mode. The app update for iOS 13 got held up by Apple so there was a blip in service but all good now.
Best VPN in China for phone and Windows
Best VPN in China, crazy speed and quality, it will never let you down. I’ve already used it for almost 1 year. Furthermore it is made and run by real professionals. I want to give like 10 stars but unfortunately the maximum is 5. Big thank you to Astrill. Keep it up guys!!
Best VPN for China I’ve used
I’ve been using Astrill for the past 6 years and in that time it’s by far the most reliable and versatile VPN I’ve used to access the outside internet in China. I’ve tried out many competitors during that time but all have had more issues with reliability or downtime than I’ve had with Astrill.
Of course, it’s not perfect, but compared to other services it’s far ahead in my experience. The VPN usually works pretty seamlessly and they seem to be quicker than other providers to fix China-related issues.
