  • 8.0 update fail

The top issue that v8.0 was supposed to address is still a problem. I deleted the app from my device and reinstalled it just moments ago. Copied and pasted my credentials, the same that I just used to log into the NRA member site and still fails. I tried my member ID and the same password and it fails. As a previous reviewer stated, there isn't a lost password button and the password is in the clear. The only option is to email support and wait for a response. 1 star is too many for an app that is unusable.

  • Crap

Doesn't do anything. Enter my name and password and nothing happens.
  • Login in failed

The email address for support came back undeliverable. I copied n pasted login credentials. No Go! Misfiring on this one. Must be using cheap reloads.
  • Cannot login

I cannot login even though my account works with the website. Please update and fix!!

  • No issues

I have download and updated one device and installed on two new devices without any issues. I am able to view all four magazines (iPad & iPhone). With this release I can download PDFs into iBooks for offline reading.

Thank you for the positive review and your support of the National Rifle Association.
  • Mixed Feelings

Before I start, NO I DONT WORK FOR THE NRA. When I downloaded this app, I read a lot of the comments, and saw a lot of people complaining that you can't download for offline reading, NOT TRUE, but I'll tell you how in a min.
I'm really disappointed that this app does nothing other than forward me to the pubs link, that I already get in my email. So why come here, just to go back to the net? STUPID, if you have the app, it should link directly. If the comment about NRA not linking because of money is true, it's a BS answer from Pubs, it's nothing to have an app look for the newest file in a specific naming convention, when you save the monthly file, the app picks it up the next time it checks. I used to do it for a living, trust me.

Now, to download your magazine, follow your link, click the PDF button, touch the top of the screen (within the magazine) and a border will appear, on the top right, it has an option to "Open in iBooks", click it and bang! Bobs your uncle. This works regardless how you get there, whether app or link.

One other thing, any file (like a PDF) is limited to the rules of the creation system, like Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, etc... I don't know, but changes to the magazine might be because of that. Just a thought. Anyway, make up your own mind, but I hope you use these tips to make it a little easier either way.

  • From Best to Worst

The American Rifleman magazine in the app used to be about the best digital magazine available. Sound, video, and special features were all top notch. The magazine remembered where you left off reading etc. It was so good I changed over to a digital only subscription to save the NRA money.

Everything has changed for the worse. Much worse. Now the app just links to a lame PDF of the magazine. All the good stuff is gone. What a disappointment! I've requested a switch back to the paper magazine. This is a shame for both members and the NRA.

I hope the NRA reconsiders this and goes back to the wonderful digital magazine we used to have.

  • Big improvement!

This is a big improvement over the earlier version. I especially like the increased number of pictures available and the ability to immediately access the web to purchase books or few addition information.
  • Excellently done.

I love the way they put this together. The videos, slide out sections, and animation all make for a great experience. So much better than a static and boring PDF format.
I wonder if the negative reviewers that complain about signing in might have skipped reading the instructions about not entering the preceding zeros that appear in their membership number...
It would be nice if they just associated your membership number with a more standard login/password format.

  • Stop Using the Animated Covers

The app is still a bit laggy when it comes to turning the page and waiting for a sharp image, but the real annoying part for me is the animated magazine covers, or rather what they do to the Library. Once you select an issue with an animated cover it looks kinda cool, but when you are in the Library view any issue with an animated cover just shows as a blank white cover so there is no way to tell what articles are in it by looking at the cover on the Library screen.
