  • Great until iOS8

Unfortunately, one star is the minimum... I've been using the app since about the first of the year and really like it (aside from the stupid sound effects at the heading of each article). Before the iOS8 update things worked well--now issues won't completely download. While part of the problem undoubtedly lies with how awful iOS8 is, the new version seemed to catch the NRA digital folks completely unprepared. As an iPad user since they came out I have never seen an update process that involved an email telling people NOT to install the new iOS until the app was updated. Then the old app needed to be deleted (taking all the back issues with it) and reinstalled. If the NRA is serious about the digital edition they need to do a better job. --Life Member

  • NRA Magazine app

This is the most well laid out app I’ve used. As a magazine, the articles come alive in a way a print media can't. Image and information notes are cleverly implemented, the navigation makes great use of the touch screen.
Significant con: having to log in to get back to my library. As much as I enjoy reading and using the app, I'll go back to the print issues due to the login needing your NRA member number as part of the log in.

  • Request to the developer

Great app, perfect for the tech savy and I love it. However, I dislike that I have to re-enter my NRA number and name to "log in" every time I enter the app to download the latest edition. Could we not simply log in the first time we use the app and then stay logged in so that when the app is opened and connects to the internet, it saved our NRA number and name so that we can simple browse without having to dig out the membership card? This is inconvienient to say the least.

This small tweak would make the app so much better...

As it is the interface, look and feel of the app is great, high quality and is crisp in HD on my ipad Air. Love the app, hate that I have to log in.

  • Who developed this thing?!?!

This is one of the worst apps I've ever used on my iPad. The magazine downloads are extremely slow. I started downloading an issue last night, it's still not done as of 9:20am. I'm on a relatively fast internet connection.

The app itself is very sluggish, one of the other reviews describes it as dial-up. That description is spot on.

The worst part is that if you put your iPad to sleep or put on a movie to watch while you're waiting for it to download, the download pauses. Now this may be an iOS thing, but if the downloads didn't take so long in the first place, it wouldn't be an issue.

I have yet to even read a single issue. I chose the digital issue for the convenience, but this has been one of the most inconvenient things ever.

So far, I'm not getting my money's worth out of this NRA Membership. I thinking I should have stuck with Gun Owners of America or Armed Citizens United.

  • NRA eMagazines

I'm very impressed with the NRA support team for this app! In that view I must add a post script at the beginning here, above my original review which appears below. The support team was diligent in their effort to find a solution to the problems I experienced and came up with a solution that corrected the issues stated below, and I thank them for that here!
    Positive Side:
Beautiful and stunning. An exciting new way to read your monthly magazine.
    Negative Side:
Consumes a great deal of memory. Probably, every 6 to 12 months, I will have to delete eMagazines to continue to have room for new ones. With the paper magazines I can save them for as long as I want. Some articles are not downloading with the eMagazine issue for November. Hopefully, that can be corrected and maintained for future issues, because this app is really a fantastic experience. (As stated above, these issues/problems have been resolved! Excepting, I still have some concern about memory.)

  • Exactly why I have an iPad!!

This is exactly why I have an iPad. I have American Rifleman magazines going back at least 15 years. Happily, now I can discontinue receiving the print version and just read them on my iPad.

Bummer: issues take a little time to download - about five minutes or so (this is with a 1.5 Mbps connection). However, issues are visually stunning, with sound and animation built in. Definitely worth the wait.

If you're like me and just hate to toss those American Rifleman magazines, but you're also running out of storage space, you need this app. Well done!

  • Great way to read the NRA magazine.

I was at first hesitant to load the APP, for fear of losing the printed version. But assurances and the promise of videos convinced me to try.
I have been pleasantly surprised how easy it is to read the articles and advertisements. The bonus of videos and being able to just touch an advertiser's website made this APP something I am glad I loaded.
I would encourage all NRA members to load this APP and I believe advertisers would be wise to gear their Ads to APP users.

  • Great Mags, buggy app.

The content and presentation of the digital magazines themselves looks great, but getting them downloaded is half the fun, which is to say it's no fun at all. Magazines will not download in the background, meaning you have to keep the app open while you have downloads pending. You can't even read other downloaded issues of a magazine while a download is in progress. If you navigate away from the app you have to re-start any pending downloads from the beginning. Also, it would be nice if the app would just cache my NRA membership credentials instead of making me enter them every single time I want to download new content. For that matter, the authentication of my credentials generates errors half of the time, forcing me to start the whole thing over again. Like I said, the content itself looks great, but the delivery pipeline still needs a lot of work.

  • Great Job

I just finished reading the August edition of American Rifleman and you all did a great job. Being able to quickly move in out of the article to view pictures, schematics and such is powerful. When you add some video, it takes it up another notch. I really like the effects at the beginning of some of those articles as well as one of the ads. Great job all around!

  • Wonderful progression

The new digital version of the NRA publications are wonderful. The ability to add extra informative video and animations adds a level of action to the articles which could never be presented in paper print. The brightness and resolution of the print and pictures is crisp and vivid.
The ability to store each months subscription on ones mobile device provides the ability to take the whole collection while traveling. During a recent plane trip, I was able to read all my past few months subscriptions from my ipad without the bulk of carrying extra magazines.
The digital progression of NRA is great and continues to improve.
