Price History of Walk The Distance

Description of Walk The Distance

Newly released: Walk the distance of the Triple Crown! (AT, PCT, CDT) Use your daily walking/running distance recorded from Health, Fitbit or Garmin app to complete the distance of really long (and some short) trails. See other users completing the same route, and don't let them pass you! Current Trails include: - Appalachian Trail - Pacific Crest Trail - Continental Divide Trail - John Muir Trail - Camino de Santiago - and many more! No third-party device or app needed! The Health App tracks your walking automatically using the pedometer built into the iPhone. WalkTheDistance puts that data to good use; showing you how far you would be if you were walking the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Continental Divide Trail and other featured routes in cities and national parks around the world. The Health App works for everyone, but this app also works with the Fitbit and Garmin devices! The Appalachian Trail is really long. So we added checkpoints along the way to help you stay motivated. For the Appalachian trail, checkpoints are shelters where you can "stay the night", along with some points that provide a good view. Checkpoints vary by walk, and of course you cannot unlock checkpoints until you reach them! Walk with other users! Walk with everyone, or just walk with your friends. You can easily add friends to walk with you on your walk. Get notified when someone passes you. Stay motivated and don't let them beat you! This app is "activate it and leave it". It uses virtually no power while in the background. It pulls your walking/running distance from the Health app once every hour in the background, or every time you open the app. When you reach checkpoints or get passed by friends, you will get notifications on your phone letting you know. Free walks in each category (Appalachian Trail, Marathons, Cities, National Parks), then other walks are available for purchase for $0.99 (or equivalent local currency). Feedback welcome! This app was built based on feedback from users. There is an "email me" link under settings. We would love to hear what routes you want added and what features you'd like to see. **Based on Virtual Walk an app that was Named Best Walking App for 2013 in the About.com Reader's Choice Awards REVIEWS: About.com "very addictive to want to put in an extra mile..." User "alleviate the monotonous nature of dog walking..."

Reviews of Walk The Distance

  • The best walking app I have found

I absolutely love this app! I love the information, beautiful pictures and fun facts about waypoints and they help keep me motivated to walk so I can see the next one. It is the only way I’ll ever be able to walk the AT so it’s a fun adventure. I will absolutely be subscribing as soon as I finish all the free walks. I would also love to see the North Country Trail added in the future if possible, but if not I will still subscribe because this app is 100% worth it!
  • Love tracking my miles this way

I’ve really enjoyed my virtual walk on the Appalachian Trail. It’s fun to track my miles and put updates on my Facebook page. If I have friends that live near the trail, I tell them that I will be in their neighborhood, which usually makes them smile. Great appWith great behind-the-scenes support. Look forward to continuing on and finishing my AT journey
  • Adds fun to walks and hikes.

I’ve been an avid hiker for many years never was a step-counter, but when I read an article about Walk The Distance it sounded fun and I decided to give it a try. I just completed the Appalachian Trail and am starting the John Muir Trail today. It’s fun to work toward completing a goal every time you go for a hike, and it adds some motivation to get out there and do it. And every day it tells you how much progress you’ve made. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of five is that I wanted to go back and find when I started my AT effort and the “history” feature wouldn’t go all the way to the beginning. I highly recommend!
