  • Amazing Language Practice

This is an amazing tool to build confidence with speaking, forming sentences, and thinking in a new language! It is probably most useful for A2 and higher, once you have a bit of rudimentary vocabulary and grammar to play with. Even in just 2 weeks I feel much more confident with speaking, and find myself thinking in German much more. This is an invaluable tool in any language-learners arsenal!

  • Really great app

I’ve been studying French for many years and always wanted to consistently work on my speaking skills. I finally have the tool I need! I’ve tried 4 apps and Univerbal is by far the best. Accurate corrections, good dialogues, good response times (e.g., no delays).

Makes our day. Thanks a lot for the feedback!
  • Not good enough to be of any use

This app does not replace a textbook or app that directly teaches grammar and vocabulary, and it does not replace conversation with a real person. It seems like a vaguely-conceived prototype that has been released too early as a product, along with lots of fake 5 star reviews as part of the marketing.

The conversations on this app are inane, the speech detection is not good enough (especially for French).

As an example of the inane construction of the conversations, for German, the conversation partner asks how long I've been in Germany. I answer that I'm not in Germany. He then asks what brought me to Germany. I answer, again, that I'm not in Germany. He then changes the topic and asks about hobbies. This is like talking to the dumbest person imaginable.

Hi there, thanks for your feedback. The app is there to help in addition to taking lessons or learning with a textbook, to be able to practice speaking even when you can't afford weekly lessons, can't travel to the country where the language is spoken or you're too shy to speak to a real person & afraid to make mistakes. We of course don't pay for fake reviews (it's a bit out of our budget :) We're currently working on making it an even better educational tool, where you can also practice grammar and speech recognition is something that's tricky to get right, because we don't want it to be too forgiving but not too restrictive either - it's a good point, though and one we'll keep improving! Last, as we're working with AI there can sometimes be hiccups, like the one you described, although those shouldn't happen very often (and generally don't). We hope this helps and thank you again for the feedback!
  • Great concept, bad TTS

I love the concept of this app, but unfortunately the text-to-speech (TTS) service it uses is horrifically robotic and sounds nothing resembling a conversation with a real person. There are several fantastic TTS services out there (Azure, ElevenLabs) that are leaps and bounds above what Univerbal uses, and I hope the developers consider investing in improving that area. Overall the app is going in the right direction, and I’d consider paying for a subscription with a better TTS.

  • Univerbal is magic

This application is basically magic and has an excellent free trial and privacy policy. I plan on subscribing despite being a broke student. It blows all learning apps other than SRS out of the water.

Thanks for your feedback, great to hear!
  • The New update

Before the new update everything was fine. But after this update I don't know where my progress disappeared. With this new system, all my conversations and levels were lost. If this update continues, I will not renew my subscription. How do you change the system of talks like this completely and without warning, when all progress in the old system is canceled and we start again with the new system!!!! If every two months a new system was applied, how would learning be?

    Developer Response

Hi, thank you for your feedback! I can understand how that's frustrating. We worked hard on bringing you the option to have an unlimited number of conversations and unfortunately we had to change the structure of how conversations work in the backend. We'll make sure to give you advance warning when making changes next time. And we hope you enjoy the new unlimited conversations and opportunity to work towards skills! If you have any further feedback, please don't hesitate to email us on yo@quazel.com.
  • The best English app

The best app for practice English. I recommended for my friends, because I’m learning so much and improving my language.
And is free, so it’s amazing, increadible.
    Thanks.

Thank you, Lailla! That's great to hear, thank you for spreading the word too. Happy learning!
  • Amazing app

Use everyday - excellent for beginners AND for bridging the gap between beginner, intermediate and advanced learners.

Thanks, James. That's so cool to hear! Enjoy learning.
  • Not the Worst App Out There

Some things I would mention that I don't like: 1) These NSFW filters make no sense. For one, to learn a language, you have to be motivated to learn it, and two, this is in the privacy of your home, which is something I really don't understand, so there should at least be an option to shut that off.

    2) Very basic and boring UI and UX. Again, not the worst, but not high tier either.

    ****The Goodies****

If you know almost nothing about the target language and want to improve before risking humiliation with even a human tutor, this might help.

Yet, there is one issue: I noticed it uses very robotic and formal speech. A normal person would probably not be so formal.

And I certainly hope it would not dare teach English in that way because here you would be a laughingstock.

    That's it.
I will be deleting this app, but it's overall okay.
