I promised myself I’d write a review after a couple months to know for sure how I felt about this app. I’ve got to say, I love and loved this app! I was looking for some straight cut-to the-chase tutorials on break dancing that aren’t cluttered, inconsistent like on YouTube, have a clear progression and by real professionals, because I always thought learning would be fun. And it was! And is!! I’m so happy I found this app. I went from an absolute beginner to advanced. I was totally addicted to it, and loved every single lesson. I always looked forward to the next one! I stuck with this app for about 6-7 months! The instructions are clear, the videos are great (not just instruction but they give you history lessons too! Which I found fascinating) the instructors are passionate and great at explaining (they’re awesome!), and it’s an affordable price. I will say I enjoyed that there were both genders teaching which is comforting knowing it’s a male dominated sport (I’m a female, so it’s encouraging to see female break dancers aka bgirls). Theres also lessons on “popping” but I didn’t get to that. I was a bit sad they were thinking of offering modern dance as that’s an interest of mine as well, but they dropped that project. Anyways, there’s different levels (hence the name), and I got all the way to advanced but didn’t do every single video (not into head spins as my head is too sensitive lol). But I will say, even “beginner level” is intense. I say this in the way of mobility. I’m a trained athlete who has background in all sorts of sports so it’s not difficult for me to pick up new concepts and apply them, nor does it strain my body as much as say someone who isn’t trained. Let me tell you, break dancing will make you “break” a sweat. It’s physically demanding. While the movements at first may seem “easy” to do, doing them in a clean, fast, and rhythmic progression is not for the faint of heart lol especially for an unfit person. It also requires balance, and lastly style and improvise. It will test your physical and mental abilities at once. My knees hurt for a while at first because I was so unconditioned to getting down and having the right “zero position” at first. I had some weeks I couldn’t break dance due to lack of energy (too much dance lol) or even stomachaches (I wasn’t great at timing food and dance.) You definitely will get in shape if you aren’t though with break dancing! If you’re a newbie out there, definitely take your time mastering the steps and playing them with slow music at first. It’s okay if you can’t get them at first or they feel awkward. Know moves shouldn’t “hurt” or you’re doing them incorrectly or very unconditioned. The baby freeze was the MOST awkward thing ever for me until it “clicked” and now I can do it easily. So stick with it just a bit! If you’re interested in break dancing and truly want to learn— seriously this app is a life saver. You can tell the creators cared as everything from the app, UI, videos, audio, music, effects, and instructors are so well put together and high quality. I can’t stress how fun it is, not only is it a creative outlet, but it takes control, flow, and skill. I enjoyed my journey so much and seeing myself grow in a new hobby that I had no idea I’d love THIS much. Thanks for much to all the creators who made this app possible!! I appreciate it so much. As they say with most things— easy to get, hard to master! P.s No one told me to write this review. I just wanted to cherish and give praise to the creators and let them know they truly did make an impact in my life with this app ♡ I also wanted to let others know realistically what to expect with joining, ability level, etc. Oh on a side note—as of using break dancing outside of my room? The result? I’ve now been to parties and events and unleashed my break dancing—and people form dance circles around me now! It’s a riot! They applaud and holler and film and then they join in and feel inspired. It’s crazy. It’s wonderful. Follow your passions. You may never know where they lead!
