  • Timer

I wish there was a timer that would go off to let you know your rest is over!
    Loving it so far though
  • Fun & Varied Workout Schedule, Lacks Fluid User Experience

First off, I want to say that I just finished the free 2-week trial and decided to pay for the 1-year subscription and this is why. Overall, I enjoyed the varied workouts. I was tired of my own routine and loved the idea that a routine was being made for me. I opted for this app instead of just a PDF because I liked that it included timers and logs my workouts. I also did a quick scan and it seems that even within the same program on a different week (I’m on Hourglass) that there will be some exercises that are swapped out which I like because it keeps it interesting but consistent enough that the first 3 weeks so far are the same.

Although I enjoy the workouts, but only issue is with the app itself. This app is supposed to be used during your entire workout and there are lots of areas for improvements:

    1. Provide alternative exercises.

I find that it is inconvenient when my gym doesn’t have that exact machine needed or it is being used and it is my last workout that I can’t use it. So I google alternative workouts myself but it would be nicer to have a button where it opens up a list of alternative workouts that hits the same muscle group.

    2. Show recent rep/weight for workouts.

So when you log your workout, it always shows a “-“ which makes sense if you never done it before. But after the first time, it would be sensible to display what you did the most recent time.

    Ex:

    Hip Thrusts:

    (12) x (50)

    (12) x (50)

    (12) x (70)

That would be 1) convenient to remember how many reps and at what weight you did them last time and 2) help you modify if needed instead of guessing

    3. Allow autofill for repeats when you add information for rep/weight

It would be nice if the app allowed you just hit “+” for the same rep+weight you did the last set instead of inputting it one by one each and every time

    4. Automatic pop up to log rep+weight

Once you finish a set, the log for rep+weight would automatically pop up

    5. More fluid counts/timers.

5a) once you finish one workout and click “next workout,” if it is timed, the timer will automatically starts and more likely than not you’re not ready. It would probably make more sense to have a transitional period when you end one workout for you to hit “next” and just get a preview of what the next one is, head over to the next machine and then to hit “ready” whenever you’re ready to start

5b) After starting a workout, it would be nice if it had a 3-second countdown to start and sync with Sophie’s video to you can do with the tempo. Then once it’s done, it should automatically start the rest timer and when it gets close to starting the next set, it should have a “get ready” by the last 10 seconds of the resting timer and then countdown to start again. This would be nice as it would feel like we have a trainer with us, which is the app. This small but super engaging feature would create a more interactive experience for the user.

Overall, I only paid for the app because I need something more engaging than a PDF of her workouts. But still, I think there needs to be lots of room for improvements for the user experience of this app especially because she made this into a subscription instead of a one-time payment. I hope to see these improvements to see if it would be worth for me to resubscribe for the following year or not.
  • 🙌🏻🙌🏻

    Love the app!!!
  • I love Gains by brain

I love gains by brain but this app can do a lot better. Tip Weglow is wayyyy better. Once this app becomes that I’ll consider switching over
  • So much potential

I would love to love this app and it has so much potential! There are some things I wish would update. I love all of your guides.
Countdown timer with beeps at (3,2,1) then move directly into the next exercise and the rest between different workouts that automatically go into next workout. It’s a pain to have to click next when you wanna go directly into the next set/or workout.

I would love for the warmups to be timed instead of reps but that’s personal preference.

Right and left sides with reps.

Running workout timer at the top to keep track of how long workout is.

Apple Watch reflects workouts because most of the time I look to my watch to see how many reps this exercise is for. Also, for the rest between sets. It’d be nice to see that on both the watch and the phone.

Also, wish the days of the week would go away, or could skip all together and just follow as able. I work a different schedule each week, so it’s hard to set my workout days.

I love the exercises and the vision of what this app has the potential to offer!!
  • I love the workouts but the app is lack luster

I love the workouts but the app itself is lack luster. It would be nice to be able to track how much weight I’m lifting and how many reps I made it through. It would also be awesome if I could actually see all the steps and ingredients for the recipes. I can’t actually try any of them if the instructions are cut off.
  • Cancelled subscription

So many glitches. I hate how long the workouts are and they’re the same every week. There’s several things they can work on. I cancelled my subscription and got the app Ladder! It’s like having a personal trainer walk you step by step. If anyone’s looking for a different app!
  • Love!!

Personally, I think everyone is far too harsh reviewing this app. I wouldn’t give it a 5 because there are some personal gripes I have with it, such as not specifying if the single leg workouts/stretches are each or you’re supposed to split the set, and that you can’t choose to start on a Saturday it automatically starts on a Monday, and I’d also love to be able to put what my
PR is for a weight on that workout. HOWEVER, I’ve been using it for a month and already have results! I’ve been doing the hourglass program 6 days a week (not super consistently, I missed some days here and there but I was fairly consistent) and I went from a 27-38 to a 26-39 :). Regardless of some technical errors that are way fewer than the reviews lead you to believe, this app gives results, and I think thats the most important takeaway here.
  • I couldn’t get past set up :(

When setting up the app there is a screen that asks you “on which days do you want to work out?” I selected the days and the “next” button would never “ungrey”. No matter how many days I selected or what I did the next button never became active so I couldn’t use the app at all :( I just blew my free trial so if they flix the glitch I’ll next get to try the app.

I wish she would use an existing app like Playbook. That app is awesome and works.
  • App Doesn’t work

Was really looking forward to getting this app. It won’t go past the 3rd screen
