Description of MF

The MF-107S Freqbox is a re-invention of Moog Music’s classic Moogerfooger MF-107S analog effects pedal. The MF-107 Freqbox, originally introduced in 2007, contained several complete modular synth functions: a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with variable waveshape capable of being hard synced and frequency modulated by the audio input, and an envelope follower which allowed the dynamics of the input signal to modulate the frequency of the VCO. In addition, the amplitude of the VCO was controlled by the dynamics of the input signal, and the VCO could be mixed with the audio input. A direct descendant of the original Moog modular synthesizers, the MF-107 was adapted to process, modulate, and play with inputs ranging from guitar, voice, and synthesizer to any imaginable audio source. The MF-107 Freqbox has been meticulously recreated as the MF-107S, capturing not only the jagged, freaky sounds of the original, but also the organic way in which the parameters interact to create a musical playing experience. The MF-107S is an AUv3 effects plug-in that requires a compatible host or DAW to function.

Reviews of MF

  • No rip-off

This series of Moogerfooger effects provides a pathway into the sound and spirit of the great series of input-output-flexible, genre-altering stompboxes Moog released in its vibrant late-peak years. The interoperability of these apps and rich sound does the company name proud. Anyone looking for outstanding, musical audio effects should give this app and all of the series a careful look.

If one thing could be changed at my request, it would be to allow (on this platform) other AU modulators and sources to be used in the effects-loop interoperability these Moogerfoogers offer with other Moogerfoogers. If the limits of the mobile platform allow it, that would fully capture the amazing connective possibilities the pedals brought to the world of stomps. Yes, these can be used like other AU apps in series, but effects-loop access takes the idea further. That these apps can interoperate this way is a very good thing, all the same.

I mourn the recent passing of Moog as we knew it, falling into the maw of corporate greed with effects already showing in ways the employee-shareholders had not anticipated. One hopes the core people - including the outstanding software minidepartment - can stay in place and hold intact the quality-level tradition of the company.

However that goes, this line of apps has turned out very well indeed.
  • I think I’ve been ripped off

First off, I can’t get these to activate using garage band or band lab. Whenever I do click on one, a message comes up saying it’s ready to use and to go to the DAW I’m using. I try that, and nothing. Another thing is that from what I’m seeing, these aren’t effects pedals like what you would use while playing, but instead are they post production editing tools?

If these can’t be used while playing, then I want my money back. I am no producer, or “sound designer” as they call them lately as if they’re the equivalent to an engineer at a nuclear reactor station. Not my thing. Musicians do nothing but tear each other down anyways, so I’m not interested in being part of the world of production

    Developer Response

Hi Doc Ice, We're sorry to hear that you're having problems activating the plugins in GarageBand. Please contact us at appsupport@moogmusic.com so that we can track down what's happening and help you. The Moogerfoogers can totally be used while playing, provided you use them in a host or DAW. Additionally they can also be used as production effects if that's what you want. If you do feel you want to be reimbursed, please do so through the Apple App Store as we have no control over the purchase or refund process. ❤️ your friends at Moog
