What You Support When You Shop Every purchase, donation and volunteer hour goes directly to the American Cancer Society’s advocacy, research, education and programs supporting families impacted by cancer. And since the first Discovery Shop opened in 1965, we have raised over $400 million. Thanks to the American Cancer Society: • 3.8M cancer deaths have been averted • Cervical cancer rates in women ages 20-24 have been reduced by 65% • Overall cancer mortality rates have dropped by 33% since 1991 Our Commitment to the Earth At the Discovery Shop, we know how much waste is created through clothing that ends up in landfills. We take our commitment to the environment seriously, at the Discovery Shop we are proud that 95% of the donations we receive go on to find a loving secondhand home. Through partnerships with a number of local charities, we ensure that the vast majority of donations we cannot sell in our shops are averted from landfills.
