Neat idea, very poor execution
Edit: Upping it to a 3 star rating, as devs have been very transparent and quick to work on the technical issues/address feedback. I still think the story is pretty nonsensical so far, but we are still pretty early in this, so I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. I think we’re still on the first episode as of writing this, so maybe it’s just the pacing being slower than what I’m used. I appreciate the experimental design even if it hasn’t quite sold me yet. It’s fun to tune into something each night.
My issue with the story is that there’s not a lot of context or backstory for the characters early on. Makes it hard to care about any of them and makes decisions feel far less impactful. It’s almost like we jumped into a season 2 of something instead of starting from the beginning. Hopefully there will be flashbacks or something to address some of this.
I still experience my iPhone 14 Pro Max getting very warm and battery losing 20%+ after a short session in the app, which in turn makes me spend less time in the app. Would be nice to get that issue resolved. $20 for the founder’s pack is just delusional. If I could get only the season pass for $5, I’d probably consider throwing some money at this.Show lessplagueseason

We’ve made some improvements, but it is still early days and we continue to work tirelessly on making your experience better. On the story side, I’d welcome any specific feedback and do agree that we are only about 45 mins of total story content in and still establishing some of the characters and story lines as well as introducing more based on the audience’s choices. UI feels like it was designed in the 90’s. There is supposed to be episodes available for people to go back and watch but the list is empty and just shows the introduction video. Only 3 random short 2 min clips are available for me to watch that give no context or pre information about the story so I have no idea what’s going on. There are options to pay to have more influence on your decision which seems massively stupid and unfair. I haven’t even been able to watch 1 episode since the launch of the service as they didn’t go back and upload the older episodes and as I like in the UK the live ones are broadcast in the early hours of the morning when the entire country is asleep so it’s a massive waste of time and defeats the point when you can’t even watch the catch up episodes. They should do European feeds and NA feeds it wouldn’t have been hard. Total crap.Show lessRossMM

By far one of the most egregiously disgusting ways I’ve seen a desperate publisher try to sink its filthy hooks into a transparent money making scam. I would say Konami and Genvid should be ashamed but it’s clear that is not something they are capable of. Gross.Cu5ter611

I’m happy Silent Hill is coming back so I went into this with an open mind — but what the hell.
Never in my life did I think a Silent Hill piece of media would launch with a battle pass and a ‘It’s Trauma!’ sticker. What a glib, slimy joke.
Outside of the intended Timezone, the function of Ascension is a mess. What do you do? Watch a recap of episodes and hope you’re around for the next one? Well, I gave that a shot - but it feels like I’m watching a Straight-To-DVD feature that’s of the quality of the early Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within movie. Stilted and janky animation.

I am a huge silent hill fan. First, and really the thing that tipped me over the edge into rage, Ascension is completely sexist. NONE of the season pass items clothing items are available for a female avatar. However so much else is wrong with this game. I wish I didn’t party for the pass. The “games” are ridiculous. Exactly the same level every day, they just change around who is going through it. The puzzles are simple cheap matching games. The phone app doesn’t work. Everything else I’ve supposedly unlocked I cannot use on the female body type. This is such a rip off. I am so disappointed. If I hadn’t paid for it I wouldn’t even play it again. In short: this is a slightly-less-than-mediocre TV show. Its gimmick is that the audience is taking part in creating the story. The problem is that the show you’re creating is awkwardly acted with mediocre writing and there’s just a million better things you could be watching. The voting and live participation was somewhat engaging at first, but I’ve already lost most of my interest—I have to enjoy watching the show enough that I care what happens in it. The visual and sound design deserve praise; it looks and sounds spooky (notwithstanding the expressionless character models) and might be a nice comfort watch before bed. It’s gimmick-first, and it’s kind of an insult to the audience’s intelligence that the developers think this gimmick alone is enough to sell the experience. The Silent Hill games are incredibly compelling pieces of horror media and monuments to the artistic potential of video games. It’s puzzling that after ten years without Silent Hill media, this is the comeback. In the hands of an experienced and talented developer, a good old-fashioned video game with the Silent Hill name could sell millions of copies.Show lessinfinity ammo

Calling this a “show” is a bit gratuitous. There are about 5 minutes of actual story a day. The pre- and post-shows are longer and no one really asked for those. The mini-games are like… browser flash game quality and don’t really reward you much. There’s so much going wrong here before you even get to the story which is just extraordinarily bad. Nothing in the world can excuse this.
