Search function does not work - false advertising on social media

The social media ad I saw on Instagram claims you could type in a list of ingredients and the app would deliver up recipes containing these ingredients.

The search function does not do this. I tried searching for basic single ingredients like ‘aubergine’ or ‘chicken’ and nothing comes up. Yet when I scroll through there are lots of recipes that use these ingredients. Frustrating UX, I subscribed and unsubscribed within 5 minutes.

Hi there, I"m sorry you had trouble with the search function. This has been fixed in the latest app update.

Good but could be improved

Very helpful app but could be improved by features which allow me to search my saved and cooked recipes to reduce need to scroll until I find what I’m looking for. You should also be able to search for recipes using multiple filters rather than only one. Would also be helpful to be able to sort my saved recipes into folders.

Good idea with great content and now improved, faster user experience

This app is getting much better in terms of loading speed and user experience. It used to be very slow and now its build does justice to the great content. Some utterly brilliant recipes from some of the best food writers in the UK.

Hi there, I'm sorry you had trouble with the app. An update was recently released. If you've not already done so, please update to Version 1.22.

So buggy it's unusable

I was so excited when I saw this on the Guardian website but this app doesn't work at all! It's very slow and stutters just scrolling. When I try to search it shows me the results for a second then takes them away and says, "no results found." Hope this gets fixed!

Hi there, I"m sorry you had trouble with Guardian Feast. These issues have been fixed in the latest app update.

The search option doesn’t seem to work.

I downloaded this app and was so looking forward to using it but the search bar is just impossible. Either nothing comes up or it comes up one minute and won’t the next. It’s so frustrating that I’ve had to cancel my subscription.

Disappointed

“Create an account for free” is abusively fake since right after that you realize you can not use the app before you pay!

Would be great if my iPad was supported

Needs iOS17 or higher :(

Response from developer

Hi there, we're sorry you're unable to access the Feast app on your device. Currently, the Feast app is only compatible with iOS 17 as we have utilised some newer technologies that are not compatible with older versions. The Feast app team are looking into this as we want as many people as possible enjoying Feast.

Great recipes, not a great app

Love the recipes and the fact you can filter by dietary preferences. However, I’m not a fan of the app itself. First, you can’t sync across devices which is gob smacking to me. Why the heck not?!? I would expect this from a free app, but not a subscription. I use my iPad for meal planning and viewing recipes while cooking but sometimes need to refer to a recipe on my phone in the grocery store to check an ingredient. Also, if you ever have to delete the app (when it gets buggy) and reinstall, all your saved recipes will be gone. That’s right! GONE. Again, would expect this from a free app, not a subscription.

Thank you for your feedback about synchronising saved recipes across devices. I'll make sure your feedback is shared with the developers. All feedback is taken into account when making improvements to the app.

I enjoy experimenting with different recipes!

Finding new and exciting recipes has become easier thanks to the convenient search function and the wide range of culinary options available. Now every day, I have something delicious and new on my plate.

Has potential but not market ready

The app feels very unfinished, as if the team had some good ideas but no time to develop it before the release date. For example, you can save your dietary preferences in the settings but they don’t actually change the app experience - I can still see chicken on my Home Screen with a Vegan filter selected.

Response from developer

Hi there, thank you for your feedback. The dietary preferences in settings only change the search preferences and not the homepage. To customise the homescreen, in the Feast app settings, under 'Home Preferences' turn on 'Hide meat-based recipes on your homepage'.
