Essentially the developer wants $3.99 per month for the convenience of accessing Gemini Via a native IOS app.
You can still use the app for free but you only get 20 questions per day. Just sign in to your google account via web browser for free and unlimited questions.

Incorrect: The app has always been free to use, and you can use your Google account via WEB MODE for free and unlimited questions IN THE APP. We are cheaper than other apps that ask for $5.99+ a WEEK. So choose wisely...
