Great app, please let me be free!

I tried a few apps and have now been using Clue for 3 years or so. I loved its no fuss, no cutesy frills, just elegant and easy to use interface and it’s been perfect for what I needed. The one thing that has me on a regular basis wanting to delete it and just use the apple health app instead is the CONSTANT pushing to subscribe to a plan. I get it - I know you deliver a super detailed app with education and deep features, and that you do of course need to advertise this. I am all for paying subscriptions for apps that deliver me value, in fact I have that many subscriptions a month it’s overwhelming (maybe I need an app to track my app spends!). However my needs are very basic here - I just want to track my cycle, and occasionally moods associated with it, and be able to look back at a glance at past lengths/variability. I don’t want children, my partners had the snip and I’m educated enough already on my body!! Is there some way to reduce the frequency of your offers, and just have basic functions without the hassle every time I open the app, please? It’s like I’m being made to feel guilty for using your app and not paying.
Maybe you could even entice me and perhaps others who may feel the same with a one off payment, or minimal once per year cost to just use the app with fewer pop ups, as I would be happy to do so for the otherwise great app you have built 🙏

Hey there, thanks for letting us know your thoughts - we totally hear you. Pop ups can be disruptive and we know that’s not ideal. While essential features will always be free for everyone, subscriptions help to keep Clue running. We’re always open to feedback though and have shared this with the team. All the best, Ilaria from Clue

Great but make one thing change or more

I think that it is a great app. I think it tracks it great and it definitely keeps track of what I was not sure of and it definitely asked me good questions to give me good feedback but the only thing that I think is wrong with it is very certain sorry I messed up some words, but definitely the money part like I get that you have to like make money but with some of it I think it’s kind of weird that you have to pay to see like things I can help you and I really don’t wanna pay because I got mine when I was 10 and I am 11 now and that it was just like right before my birthday so I don’t have any money on my account or anything which I do not want any and I don’t wanna pay for it so I think that was very certain things some stuff that you can obviously keep like you have to pay money for something I think that you should keep open and of course there’s another thing I have to say ha ha ha I personally think that would be so cool if you made your own menstrual products because you could make so much money from that and I think because how much you know about everything and also because of other peoples views or reviews that you know what people like you have a good day. 😊😊😊

EVERY GIRL NEEDS THIS

I’m thirteen. About a year into my period, when I got my phone, I downloaded this app. Now I’m about a year and a half in. THE PREDICTIONS ARE INSANELY ALMOST PERFECT, THE BEST YOU CAN ASK. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Part #1 of review: Once my best friend gets her period, I’m definitely forcing her to get this app! Part #2: While I had to discover it myself because my mom didn’t know about it (she didn’t have these things as a teen of course), any mother of a girl who is starting should show her how to track on Clue. Part #3: Also in settings you can pick what certain things you track! It took me awhile but I figured out you can take off things like tracking your birth control etc. (obviously I don’t use that) Part #4: On this week’s cycle, I woke up, checked the app, it said my period would start in about two days. That day in the middle of school I had really bad cramps. I tracked PMS starting as well as the pain. The next day I knew it would probably start tomorrow. I had a bit of PMS, which I tracked. So then I went to bed and put in a sleeping pad. When I woke up I was on my period! So accurate! Thank you Clue, I just know without this app I’d be so lost! IN CONCLUSION, EVERY GIRL NEEDS THIS APP!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to share your positive feedback with us–it means a lot! Happy tracking from all of us in Berlin. All the best, the Support Team at Clue.

Improvement suggestion

Love the app, have used it for years, it helped when trying to conceive. I’m going through premature menopause. Which means I often have months of no periods, but I still get cramping. There currently isn’t a tracking mechanism for this, because my cramps aren’t period or ovulation related. Can we add this on in the next update? I know it would be helpful for so many of us with irregular periods.

I’m done with this app

I’d been using clue for nearly 10 years, since March 2015, most of the time as a subscriber of clue plus. In 2022 they let me down massively during an update in which they stop their pregnancy tracker with no warning. I was in the middle of a high risk pregnancy and was left without the support and data I had input for months. I stopped then my subscription and moved to the free app. Since then, the app has been going downhill, with more pop up windows to subscribe every time I track something and lately failing to even recognise a cycle unless it falls within the expected parameters. Disappointing. Clue developers, get your act together, reddit is full of complaints about the new interface. Women’s health is challenging enough without you messing us up when we have been loyal to you for a decade! As of today I’d downloaded a new period tracker app and I’ll keep clue in the background only until I get the time to migrate all my data. Sad that it has come to this. It was such a nice pioneering app back in 2015!

Response from developer

Hey, we're sorry that we interrupted your experience with Clue Pregnancy in 2022. Also, we understand that you're disappointed about the number of Clue Plus ads in the app right now. We’re sorry if it’s made your app frustrating to navigate, or if you’ve felt overwhelmed, and we’ll pass this feedback on to the relevant teams. Feel free to contact us about the app's issue with recognizing an atypical cycle, so that we can look into it. All the best, Ilaria from Clue

Used to be great

Stop prompting me to sign up for plus every time I come to the app.

Response from developer

Hey, thanks for your review. We’re sorry to hear you feel like you’ve been seeing too many Clue Plus ads. Unlike many other companies, the only thing we sell at Clue is additional features in the app. We’re committed to never selling your data, or displaying ads from other companies in our app. Every paid Clue Plus subscription helps fund our Science Team, research partnerships to further menstrual health, and our relentless efforts to close the gender data gap. All the best, Anna from Clue.

Amazing since 2015!

Clue has been my go-to app for years now - since 2015! The user design has always been second to none, which could earn it 5/5 stars alone… until recently when other apps have rebranded and streamlined their design as well.

However, every time I open the app, input any daily data, or toggle between tabs/functions within the app it loads a full-screen advert for their paid upgrade option. Too many ads per app use! Clue didn’t used to do this when I first got the app. I recall a lot of free content that was really informative and a pleasure to explore! Now I find myself waiting for the ads to load just so I can minimise them, over and over again, and it makes the experience feel tedious. As a result, I haven’t been inputting as much data as I used to, which then means less informative data is fed back to me.

Still recommend, especially if you don’t mind subscribing for a frankly very low cost (and the pleasure of no ads) 😊

Hi, thanks for reaching out. We’re sorry to hear the app experience hasn’t been what you had hoped for lately. It’s true we’ve been focusing more on Clue Plus features, and the advertising of our premium subscription. To put it simply, this is because Clue needs to make money to become a sustainable business and remain impactful. We deeply care about our user community, which is reflected in how we make money. The only thing we sell is Clue features in the app (unlike some other companies). This is because we’re committed to never selling your data, or showing ads from other companies in our app. All the best, Anna from Clue

every update makes the app worse

I’ve been using Clue since 2013 and always spoken highly of it but over the last year or so they have slowly removed/hidden behind a paywall many features that made the app great. Adding new info onto a day has become a lengthy task compared to what it was. The app is largely not useful if periods are irregular. I now can’t access the app at all if I don’t have a strong internet connection. Can’t get more than 2 taps into a task without pop-ups asking me to pay. If I said ‘no I don’t want to pay I’m happy with the free version’ 30 seconds ago, what makes you think I suddenly want to pay now and you should ask again? I have stopped updating the app because every new update gets worse and worse despite the overwhelming response from other reviews/users that share my opinion. It’s a shame that the decade of happy customers and positive reviews on the app store cover up the most recent 1 star reviews as those old reviews no longer reflect the current apps functionality.

Really pushes the paid subscription

I’ve used clue since 2015 and it was great for ages, unfortunately somewhere between having my first and second baby the app has started pushing the paid subscription super hard. So much so that the app has become barely usable, every time I click something it tries to get me to subscribe when I hit the back button I’ll get a fresh pop up.

I would think about it if it were affordable but at $70 a year it’s not really, especially when I won’t use the added functions of the paid sub.

I stick around because I have got nearly 10 years of data on the app, but I wouldn’t recommend it to new users.

Hey, thanks for your feedback and we’re sorry to hear you feel like you’ve been seeing too many Clue Plus ads. However we often run promotions with which you can get the subscription for the first year with a 75% discount, so that you'll pay much less than what you see in the app. Feel free to contact us from the app if you'd like to learn more about this. All the best, Ilaria from Clue

Ever since the update

It’s been frustrating, trying to type in my info and being bombarded with an ad to buy clue plus every time. I know you guys gotta make money, and I appreciate that you don’t sell people’s data, but it does feel less usable and frustrating just trying to track my cycle when I’m busy and in pain.

I also miss when the graphics were more inclusive and less gendered…period cramps being slender hips wearing panties always makes me uncomfortable as a trans person, and I wish they’d just bring back the old graphic of an upset emoji face.

Other than that, I use the app regularly.
