Just use Zillow or Trulia

User interface is dire, and perhaps one of the worst I’ve ever seen in an app. Everything is hard when it comes to just doing simple things like accessing saved listings, or getting results for a saved search. The app sends hundreds of notifications by default. Want to know about every single minor listing change, multiple times a day, without any granular control over it at all? This app has you covered. Also when you click on a notification, it takes you to a a some default set of useless search results (and not the changed listings). I have hated every moment with this app. It makes an already difficult process even harder. This thing needs fixing from the ground up. I found out yesterday that Trulia has the same listings so finally I can delete this app. What a relief!

Updates reduced UX quality

The layout in for the new update is too big and takes up too much screen Realestate.
- Breaking up building amenities and the common charges in taxes into large Rows makes it harder to quickly get a glimpse of property data.
- More importantly, they removed the scrollbar for financing amount. Now I need to manually put in the exact number instead of being able to slide until find the amount I want to put down to see that adjustment of the total monthly cost. Very very annoyed at this update. I want the scroll bar for finance calculator back.
-Also when a property is in contract it’s “type” changes from coop or condo to hybrid? And the common charge sand taxes per month disappears when it in contract?? What’s happening here

It’s just about serviceable

Lots of issues though.

Notifications aren’t granular enough. Can’t filter out “updates” to listings.

Promoted listings can’t be hidden. You’ll just always be seeing the same terrible listing for weeks on end, and it’s almost always the first thing you see when you load the app.

Navigation is awful. Just being able to navigate to your search should be way easier than it is. Having a page full of recent searches on the home screen is not the solution to that. The default sort option is bad and can’t be changed on mobile. You’ll be seeing irrelevant updates for the same listings over and over again, and it’s the first thing you see after the promoted listings.

Also full calendar access to add an appointment? In 2024? You kidding?

All in all, honestly kinda terrible. Hopefully some competition comes along to knock this off the top choice for NY apartment hunting, fingers crossed!

Business Model Has Changed — Annoyingly So

I’ve used StreetEasy for several apartment searches for nearly two decades. I used to love how well I could drill down in the filters to limit my search to exactly what I need, and receive email updates listing exactly what I searched for. Now, search results and alerts are full of far too many sponsored ads and random listing that are outside my filters. — Why would you show me a 700 sq ft apartment when I set my bottom limit at 1250 sq ft, unless you just want to annoy me? Or a price higher than my range, if you don’t want to drive me to other sources. If a human broker do that I’d fire her.

Brokers are also not well constrained. Bait-and-switch listings, square footage inflated to including common or outdoor space, exorbitant hidden fees, are for more prevalent than ever throughout.

Like many younger people I speak to, the company has lost my trust. Whether this is a business model shift or a bunch of app glitches, you will need to consider correcting these issues before you lose our trust altogether.

Not a good app! Needs an update ASAP!

Most agents do not respond on this app will be going to other apps if this continues. And where's the saved list of apartments when we save it or heart it in the app? The app is okay to view pictures it convenient and easy to navigate however it lacks a lot of other simple stuff.
I feel agents respond whenever if they ever at all and a lot of the post are not verified or already been sold but still appear on the market some of it is not the app fault but the agents they seem to not value us using this app as they don not give direct follow up from this app at all! It's like a waste of time :( disappointed deleting soon!

They deserve 7 stars

Omggg I’m trying to find a way to reach out to multiple spaces while matching my needs and STREETEASY is exactly what THE NAME IMPLIES EASY EASY EASY ; I truly needed to stop the mental gymnastics during this search that other sites made me a custom to with the hard to find plug ins and jumpy interfaces it was so tiresome on the others ; BUT NOT with STREETEASY I GAINED A HOUR BACK A DAY OF MY LIFE because of this interface Is SO EASY and FASTER TO NAVIGATE !! I hope they add more amazing rental apartments under 3k in Brooklyn and Manhattan. THANK YOU I never in my life wrote a review for a realtor app but they truly deserve the 5 stars !! - All the best Destiny

Generally, good, but updates are meaningless when driven by brokers

There are some homes that meet my standards for the filters, but I don’t ever want to see an update for or even on my feed. Certain things are nonnegotiable for me like windows that look out onto another apartment building in an alley. I want to remove those from me ever receiving an update about them, or putting them in a list that is inactive so that my app isn’t updated daily by listing agents who are basically spamming my phone with badge ‘updates’ that i dont care about.

Stop kidding yourself, app is terrible

We say this app is great but really it's the only real option we have right now.

This is trash.

Remember: if you aren't paying for the product, you ARE the product.

StreetEasy/Zillow doesn't care about users. They care about property owners. They built and manage the app to serve them. Not you.

I would gladly pay $5/month for an app that prioritizes my use, rather than annoying me constantly:
* App ignores your preference to hide a property if owner pays to sponsor or feature. So something you know you don't want will still pollute your feed. They'll even send you emails and notifications when something changes - even if you have hidden that apt and the entire building.

* They allow owners to post whatever photos they want, as long as they say "photos are representative of finishes." I don't want to see photos of a much nicer apt that I can't afford to lure me in. That's fraud. It's a straight up lie and Zillow knows they're doing it. They don't care.

* Searching functionality is terrible. Saved search editing is painfully bad. This is on purpose. They want you to just create more searches rather than editing, so they can send you more emails and notifications.

* Customer service will just placate you and do nothing. Again , they only care about property owners.

Street Easy for Landlords

Hello,

I’ve been in the market for over a month looking to rent in NYC and reached out to tons of dozens of listings through Street Easy and their sister apps.

Not a single person has got back to me, majority of the listings appear to be a scam, the listing has broker fees that they don’t provide up front or two different addresses with the same photos. I’m not too sure who is in charge or quality control in Brooklyn NY but they don’t have the renter as a priority. I’ve been giving out my phone number and email with nothing in return but a “confirmation email” that I reached out to a listing. I’m not sure who’s loyalty Street Easy is to but it sure ain’t the average people of NYC.

just downloaded the app

Been using the website for years, decided to try the app. the good: * monthly property taxes are shown for Condos * Floorplans are easy to view, without scrolling through all photos. THE BAD: * The map takes up 3/4 of my ipad screen and I can’t find a way to minimize it. * properties I have set ti hidden are still showing up in searches and I’m still receiving email notifications for them. * When I add a filter for “up to” in property taxes, I loose ALL Co-Op listings! * Property tax filter seems to be annual, not monthly as it appears in listing. * When filtering for cc’s and taxes, it would be helpful to have the ability to type in a dollar amount, instead of only being able to select from the choices given, or at least have more options
