Visual and Informative

This is an app that's beautiful to behold, enabling easy visual identification - even between closely related varieties. IPhone app best useful on walks but iPad app such a pleasure to browse and learn from. Over time (I've had it for some years) the app has grown to include most UK species and the developer responds positively to suggestions for improvements and inclusions. One of my "essentials".

Sad

Just spent an hour using the Auto Rec function to identify two different flowers. It Informed me that the first flower was a yellow species when in reality it was blue and that the second flower was firstly one species and then another quite different species, even though I was using the same specimen to photograph! The thing about this is that the App is probably being used by those who wish to improve their knowledge and this is certainly not going to do that.

Search

Disappointed with this app. Flower photo identification is very poor. Can’t find the search button. Quite often pressing a button just takes you out of the app. Identified pictures are good and show leaves as well

Unidentifiable

Great concept for an app and reasonable and honestly priced, Howver, I couldn’t get any of my photos to be recognised by the app. I tested this against Bing’s on line photo recognition app. Photos that were recognised by Bing were not recognised by this app. I also tried to list all the flowers that are Yellow, and then again by other colours. The app only gave a few of the right colour and a large number of flowers that were no where near the colour. Admittedly it gave low percentage recognition for these.

On the plus side, the photos of the flowers on the database are excellent. So if you know the plant the information is great. I use it for verifying flowers that I think I have identified.

The developers need to improve the data retrieval algorithm as well as that for plant recognition.

Auto non recognition

Like many fellow victims I bought this program to identify wild flowers from phone images. Like so many others I was conned by the auto recognition feature. I photographed a pink flower - a 5 petals member of the family Portulaceae, the auto recognition came up with 91% probability of a YELLOW 6 petal Celandine- a completely different family AND the developers say they are professional botanists! They should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for marketing such a rubbish piece of software.

Sightings

I don’t seem to be able to delete an individual sighting that I have accidentally duplicated. It seems you can only delete all sightings. I may be wrong in this but I can’t see a method.

Good app but takes getting used to

Does the job but it would be good if the icons in the manual ID had descriptions. Also, it would help if rather than describing plants as small, medium or large, there was a key to these descriptions.

Huge disappointment

Failed on first attempt to offer any useful guidance. Not all sure how the ‘automatic’ bit works. Took a photo and got nothing back from the app. Using manual gave me a load of nonsense suggestions. If I had bought this in a shop, I would be back there right now demanding my money back. Patently does not do what it claims it can. Don’t waste your money.

Love it.

Such a good app! I agree about there not being enough time to read the correct answer on the quiz. Would be great to get this fixed. I have found a few wild flowers that aren’t on the app but overall it’s been so worth the money. Happy that there are people in the world who care enough to make these apps.

Wild Flowers ID recognition

We are very pleased with this App as an entry point & first App purchase to help in recognising British wild flowers. The photos are good quality and you have to become familiar with the App to get results; this doesn’t take long. I recommend this App for the cost involved.
