Updated app 2024
KPRC updated their storm tracker app mid-2024. The old app was my family’s go-to for weather. Our alternate app for weather in SE Texas was Fox 26 Weather. Our main app was KPRC 2 Storm Tracker. Since the KPRC update, we have not used the app because of the insane popup ads, the confusing navigation, and the apparent absence of some tried and true features, such as future forecasts, cloud cover, wind speed, and the short daily text forecasts from our weather experts. If these features are still present, they are not easily accessible during my busy day. For now we are using the Fox 26 weather app. We are extremely loyal to KPRC channel 2, it is our local news channel of choice and watch it on tv. But this new app is a hot mess for us.

Updated app - exasperated
Update-I am once again going to express my extreme disappointment with this app. It is so chock full of ads is barely usable. I’m angry that you’ve taken a locally loved application and turned it into a corporate ad generating machine. You’ve lost all of my respect by not listening to the NUMEROUS responses to this poorly developed app with very little usability in mind for folks who really rely on this for their local weather news.
The updated app is such a disappointment. It’s filled with advertisements, the screens are too busy and visually overwhelming. I get notifications to my phone and when I click on them they open to the alerts page where it says no alerts today. I’m not even sure what the app is notifying me of. It’s useless distraction now, instead of helpful local weather information I don’t get the written forecast from the meteorologists like I did before. Its not always convenient to watch a video and the small weather summary was my main use for the app. And this removed my primary means of tracking daily weather It was my favorite weather app, because it was local and gave me something no other app did. Now it’s like all the others. It’s a big let down. Channel 2 has always been my go to for local news and weather. This just feels like it’s lost its way.

Why did you update this app
WHAT HAPPEND?!?!?! As someone who loves geography the map was amazing with street bands and locations all over the world. Also there is weather all over the world. Now however we have a crappy map that is all white. As a Katy-Houstonion I am very mad that they say the twin woods are now being called “ resavoirs “ they r not. Also going back to the weather part.. witch is what the whole app is about. It’s not accurate and at the moment hurrican berel is coming straight for us. AND WE CANT EVEN SEE IT. And the weather we can see is completely wrong and is only in the Houston area. To finish out all country’s are written in there respectful laugnguage. ( sorry for all bad spelling )

Recent Update Ruined App
Previously the app was easy to navigate and easy to read on the screen. I actually recommended it to family and friends from outside the Houston area. I travel a lot for work and it was my go to for local weather wherever I was. No longer! Last week it starting showing me in Houston when I was in Austin.
Then late last week it was updated and it is horrendous. What idiot thought this was a good idea?? All the nav “buttons” at the bottom of the screen are gone. You now have to go to the hamburger in the upper left corner and look at a menu. The background is now black and the sections are smaller and take up less real estate so they could add ads in between the sections.
Will be deleting this app now.

Whyyyy did you change the weather app??
I completely agree with every single word from the other reviewer about the changes that have been made to the storm tracker weather app! Line for line, their review accurately describes the inadequacies we are now stuck with. It is AWFUL!!! What a horrible downgrade on all fronts from the previous version. It is so bad that I thought I had been hacked and quickly deleted the app. That’s how I ended up here, to reinstall the app, only to find out that this IS the NEW version of the app. Now, I just feel less informed and completely abandoned by those that I trusted. Is this because Frank left? Is this some foreshadowing to other future inadequacies that we will have to deal with in Frank’s absence? How can I trust your thinking when your thinking gave us this??? What is going on at Channel 2??? Bring back the original version of the app. Please!!! Me & my family relied on it everyday. The new version is not worthy of being an “app”.

New storm tracker app
As a longtime user of the channel 2 Storm Tracker app, I just wanted to say that i absolutely HATE the new app! I have always turned to this app for all the updates regarding Texas weather, especially Houston and the surrounding areas. It was easy to navigate, immensely better than the other local stations and I could always find everything I was needing to know. This may be the newest cutting edge technology, but it is so crowded now, that you can’t see the forest for the trees! Instead of being easy and quick to find out the daily weather updates, I’ve taken to looking and the other 2 local stations weather apps for what I’m looking for. I realize this is just one person’s
opinion, which may not count for much, but sometimes too much information, can cloud the whole picture. I’m really disappointed!

Why the change?
I wasn’t too thrilled with the new interface when I woke up this morning. What happened to the clean interface? The new one looks like it is cluttered with ads, when they are actually links to other features of the app. I have to think twice before clicking them. The colors on the links are too noisy with the reds and the blues in the graphics. You can do better. I don’t see the update section that came with the previous version. Was this taken out? Sometimes I don’t have time to watch the video, but the short summary always helped. The radar is still good. I like being able to scroll through the motion.

Update is a Hot Mess
I have four weather apps on my phone and this used to be my favorite. It was sleek and easy to use and had the best radar display. Now the home page overwhelming to look at with too many graphics, video, radar, ads, etc. When I click through to current conditions, there’s just too many tabs and too much information. Also, the settings and location buttons are so tiny, close together and in the very top right corner making them difficult to press. If this app wasn’t free, I’d delete it.

New update - DON’T download
I recently found this app and loved the simplicity of it. When you’d wake in the morning there was an update waiting to tell you about the weather in your area. The radar was simple and accurate over YOUR current location. I could easily see the forecast 48 hrs & 10 days. All very simple and easy on the eyes unlike most other weather apps.
Today I woke and it’s completely revamped. The morning weather report is gone, there are pop ups on every screen I click, advertisements all over the view. It’s all hard on the eyes and now everything is buried within pages. Looks like every single other weather app.
