  • Worth the price!

While it may seem expensive, this is a fantastic way to scout/preview images. It keeps getting better thru great updates and enhancements. Whether for film or digital, highly recommended.
  • Fantastic app.

    Highly recommend it.
  • Great tool

Use it for reference framing continuously, clients love it
  • Indispensable

If you’re a tripod shooter with large and heavy cameras or just want to find the right view, this is a great tool and matches virtually any format and provides an endless string of lens sizes. Where was this 30 years ago when I was lugging my Arca Swiss and Schneider 400 mm lens across the terrain?!

  • elegant and useful

For many years I have tried to find a reasonably priced optical director’s viewfinder on the web, eBay, B&H Photo, etc. They are out there but you get what you pay for and if you want quality, versatility and accuracy, it’s expensive. Enter the Mark II Artist’s Viewfinder. With it’s elegant and easy interface and compatibility with the current iPhones and third party lenses it is the answer I have been looking for. And the price is right! Some may balk at a +$25 app, but even combined with the cost of associated iPhone cases and lens attachments, it is quite a bargain compared to the outrageously expensive optical versions. Third party lens and case makers have caught up with the iPhone 6 so “this is the one, Neo.” I have been using it for about a month now and am completely satisfied. Customer support is excellent. Highly recommended.

  • Full featured and updated

Really, really love this app. As a cinematographer, I, like everyone, used the most popular cinema viewfinder app for a few years. Eventually I got tired of its cumbersome and slow updates and went searching for a better app. And I'm happy to report this app is far superior.

I use it daily and I think it's biggest feature is its speed and simplicity.

It opens up faster than its competitor and I find myself getting the frame I need, choosing a lens, and putting my phone away quickly to frame up my real camera. Less time in the app means more time shooting.

It's features also work well for the modern cinematographer. It's easy to load up multiple cameras or multiple capture formats.

Shooting 2:1 aspect ratio on UHD Amira, but 2K for high speed plus black magic pocket and gopro c/d-cams? Easy! You can have all 4. Try setting that up in your other app.

  • Limited I Phone 6+ Support

Appears to be a very useful app; however, support for the iPhone 6+ is woefully limited for wide-angle landscape photography. The required wide-angle converters are either not available for the iPhone 6+ or they are not compatible with protective 3rd party cases, sold for this phone (i.e. Olliclip 4 in 1).

    Developer Response

While it's not the right place to ask wide angle converter manufacturers to support iPhone 6 Plus, we do our best to support the most popular converters as soon as we can get them (currently the app supports various 6 Plus converters from Schneider and olloclip, the full list is available here: http://www.artistsviewfinder.com/tech-specs/#wide-converters), and you can also create your own custom converter in case you have a lens that's not on the list. Using wide angle converters and setting up custom converters is discussed in depth in the Viewfinder Handbook (a free download from: http://www.artistsviewfinder.com/handbook/).
  • Fully professional.

This app has fully professional features, an excellent tasteful interface and seamless execution. I am one of those eclectic professional photographers who would otherwise spend a small fortune on optical viewfinders for vintage and contemporary cameras--and never really be satisfied. After this app, I have everything I ever wanted in a viewfinder, some very well-designed logging and session planning tools, and a camera function with frame lines, exposure lock and focus lock. Overall, this excellent professional app upgrades the standard iPhone camera for pro photographers, and needless to say I'm never buying an optical viewfinder again.

  • Excellent product

Despite its high price, it's really useful for previsualing a subject when using a large format/medium format camera. Although there is some inaccuracy with the coverage (Toyo View 4A II), I was able to create a custom camera anyway. In combination with the app Reciprocity Timer, I can document a shot without writing notes on a piece of paper.

  • Nearly Perfect

This is exactly what we are looking for at our photography studio to allow the stylist to stage a product/setting prior to the photographers arrival, saving a lot of time. The only missing feature that would be a HUGE help is custom aspect ratios or a custom overlay so that we can visualize a clients crop requirements. Being able to see both the camera aspect ratio and an overlay of a custom crop size would be fantastic.
