A very important service
We always check the weather forecast before going out on the harbour…. The information provided is very informative and allows us to plan our days and stay safe
Good for general overview
Use this website every time I want to check the forecast - more useful than “land based” sites. But needs to cover the far north - sea based activity doesn’t stop at the Bay of Islands!
Advertising
Shame that Metservice as an SOE allows Google to distribute advertising to consumers on its platform. I have noticed that a larger number of ads are phishing from overseas marketing companies and in fact are click bait ads. Reliability and accuracy of weather information is somewhat lacking.
Light on content, design could be better, gets some of the job done
As per title. Gets some of the job done but I wish it had a lot more content to it. Could have map view, ratings out of ten, live cam links, live reports, more localised content, details to when updates will be made to forecasts. Etc.
Super. Accurate
This app is super accurate it is great if you’re wanting to know how the weather is gonna be like can you want to go out!
The ads are a safety issue
Ashore, it’s a great app and contributes considerably, along with other sources of information, to mariners ability to factor in the weather to passage plans. However, like most other internet dependant sources, it fairly useless 10 miles offshore unless you have an expensive satellite communication facility.
At the extremes of cellular service coverage, the ads spend forever downloading first, such that the forecast is often lost due to time-outs, intermittent coverage and all the other issues inherent in trying to get a signal at the extremes of cellular coverage. It’d be much better if the forecast downloaded first and the ads played second fiddle to the important safety information that is the weather forecast.

Good broad overview
Doesn’t have the hourly detail of my other cellphone apps, but consistently good daily overview. Seldom off the mark.
Sheberight
Pretty handy app once you get your head around how it works. Ads are very in your face but would still recommend to any boater
Not bad
Easy to use when you know how and the adverts up front are a bit annoying
Wildly inconsistent and inaccurate!
Forecasting done by kids with absolutely NO local knowledge of local conditions!! Especially true in Wellington... that’s after you are forced to wait for an advert for a department store to load?!!... pathetic... for a SOE you’d kind think that forecasts that are critical to so many at sea have to wait out pointless advertising!!! May as well run an episode of the Kardashians to generate more money?...
