  • Just paid version of UKC data

Don’t bother, very limited info in addition to what ukc provides. Marketed otherwise

    Developer Response

Hi there. This is incorrect. The books we publish provide a huge amount more information than can be found on ukclimbing; topos, overviews, maps... all professionally curated by experts of the region. Australia currently does not feature in the guidebooks we publish so perhaps this is the issue you're facing ? We list all the regions covered in the App Store listing and our own landing page. If you point us to the incorrect marketing we will make sure it's fixed.
  • Great App

It’s a game changer no longer needing to take pictures of the guidebook all the time. The quality of the route topos are incredible👌
  • Amazing way to scout trips

This app is so great. You can scroll across the UK and the world to explore climbs in a way you can’t really do before. Ok, UKC has a similar function, but the Rockfax app executes it much better with a way better interface. Well done guys!
  • The best climbing app on the market

The topos and route descriptions are the best there is. A massive coverage of crags and areas as well. Loved using the offline maps to pick my way way between boulders or approach mountain crags! Superb!
  • No routes in the states

    literally 0
  • Great app but with plenty of room for improvement

I love using this app for its clear topos and ukc linking ability. I like the fact that I was able to trade in my previous purchases to use as credit for the subscription service.

I do wish some areas were more extensively covered and not just the ‘best of’ routes. I’d also love to have a desktop version available for Mac. I was told that it was in the works when I asked a couple of years back, however have heard nothing. The app can be hard to navigate sometimes when the ‘swipe up’ options seemingly don’t respond. I’ve also experienced completly different topo results on mine and a friends device despite both being updated at the same time.

On the whole I do love the ‘everything available’ aspect of the subscription service, but would like a little more for my £5 a month.

  • Great app

Much cheaper than the guide books, if you climb in lots of different places. Also, always up to date. Pretty reasonable at £5 a month (you can just pay the months you want to use it).
  • Too many routes missing

Guys you need to update this app! It’s useful but considering its a paid subscription app I’d expect it to be up to date at least as much as the books. Half the time I find that routes are just not shown in the app. I’ll be sticking to the books in future.

    Developer Response

The app has the most up-to-date information for Rockfax guides. Sometimes it has newer information than in the current print guides. If you're seeing old information there must be a problem somewhere. Can you tell us where you're finding that?
  • Good app overall

I’m a new user to the app having previously used Rockfax in book form. I love the concept and the idea of an all you can eat subscription to the Rockfax portfolio.

    Pros

    1. Great photos of routes
    2. Maps of the crags
    3. Log book/wish list of routes is excellent

    Cons
    1. Maps don’t work without internet, even when a book is downloaded for offline usage. This came as quite a shock yesterday when we arrived 2. I was initially under impression this contained all of the Rockfax book info. This isn’t the case. E.g info on how to set up anchors at particular crags that is in the guidebook is left off the app. I found this disappointing and unsure why this was done.

Overall, this a great app and I hope it has a long future ahead.

Hi and thanks for the review. There are two types of map in the Rockfax app: The first is the system map under the "map" tab at the root view. This requires an internet connection. Last I checked it was not possible to download Apple Maps data for offline use but I will verify this is still the case. The second type is taken from our books, where we make the maps ourselves and annotate them with relevant info. These are available on the crag view below the topos and should absolutely work with or without a connection once the crag package is installed. Any of this type of map made within the last five or so years will also show your location on them.
  • Great addition to guide books

Not knowing what guide books to buy Rockfax seemed like a good stepping stone. The ability to download guides is a massive bonus and extremely helpfull when half way up and need some guidence. The UI could do with some improvements. UKC integration is a bit odd/confusing. Log book displays route guide description rather than your personal log, which is hidden behind the Tick icon which isn’t obvious. Personal notes should be displayed in the rout guide as well for way viewing when finding routes. Basically Fixing obvious UI/UX issues would get a 5stars.
