  • Let me change metadata

The reader is much worse than iBooks or Kindle but the bookshelf UI is much better in this app. Overall, the app is pretty laggy when doing anything more than just reading (changing font size, scrolling several pages, opening and closing books), but that is fine since most of the time is spent reading books. I really like the way this app seems to handle sorting. The author sort option, groups books by author and displays them all in a list with cover thumbnails. This is exactly what I was looking for but sort by series instead. Series sort is an option in the app but is completely useless as a feature since you can’t set the series of a book at all. If this one feature was added, I would switch to this app permanently.

  • No way to save formatting settings and ebooks take an age to load

I was looking for an alternative to another ebook reader app for iOS, and while I love the UI of this one, it's extremely frustrating that ebooks take FOREVER to load (like a minute before you can start reading after opening the book for the first time, even for short books), and there is no way that I can find to permanently set the formatting for the ebook, for example, to increase the line height or font size. If you leave the ebook and immediately reopen it, the formatting is reset to the book's default. I googled around to see if there's a way to do this and it doesn't seem like it, although the app's settings and tooltips are lacking enough that I would believe there's a way, it's just not called out anywhere that I can see. There's also no way to bulk-download books via OPDS, and each book you download opens a download progress dialogue (instead of proceeding with the download in the background), which blocks you from downloading any other books in the meantime, and after the download completes opens the book, requiring you to back out of the book before you can download another. Overall a pretty app with some pretty awful usability issues!

  • App issues

Honestly this app was everything. It allowed me to download books and read them on the go and I loved that esp since it’s totally free. It wasn’t until the last couple months that it started giving me issues. Every time I would open the app it would close automatically and this issue is still persisting. I would then not open it for some time and try again and the issue would still occur. I deleted the app twice and redownload it and although in the beginning it was working fine again, the closing issue started again. I would really appreciate if this issue could be resolved so I can continue reading my books 🙏🏼 thank youuu

  • Finally a page mode edit

I have an epub book about crocheting where the image of the finished result and the pattern description were on separate paired pages. I tried looking up ways to fix this for ibooks, no luck. Tried fixing it in calibrie, no luck. Finally gave up and downloaded some epub readers. Kindle is restricted to 50mb, this book is 250mb. Epub reader wasn’t helping either and was stretching the images weirdly. Pocketbook is the first I found where I can actually alter the page scroll, 1 page, 2 page, or endless scroll. Plus, the controls actually make sense. It is also the first one to have Text To Speak (TTS) which is a huge plus for me

  • Nearly perfect reader

This does cloud sync, cloud storage of books, AirDrop of books to other devices, large selection of fonts, etc.

My only issue is that I really dislike fully justified text, it messes up the spacing. Every time I open a book I’ve been reading, I have to open settings and toggle “Settings priority” back on so it goes back to left justified. Why aren’t settings preserved between sessions? It seems to remember the font I chose but it’s annoying to have to re-left justify every time I want to read.

Great app otherwise. I came from MapleRead SE which is good and feature-rich, but requires a manual sync for bookmarks, which I always forget to do, so I stopped using that app.

  • A Wonderful App! Just one question…

I love how Pocketbook lets me read both CBRs and PDFs. It’s a dream come true, especially with so many reading options. I especially appreciate how the app saves my placement when reading something. I just wish there was one feature that could be included: naming books.
Can you allow for custom naming? I like giving my books nicknames with numbers so I can easily remember which order to read them in. (Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, etc). But even if I rename the file itself, the name for the book doesn’t change.
For example, say that I have some Harry Potter books. I take the third book and rename the PDF file to “Harry Potter 3”. But when I open the file in Pocketbook, it still calls it “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”. As someone who often loses track of book order, this is quite frustrating, especially since the app sorts the books (even within groups) alphabetically.
At the very least, allow for more customization when sorting books, like maybe moving them around (within a group) manually.

  • Very Unhappy. These are the reasons why

First, I attached 3 different cloud apps (dropbox, google drive & google books). Two of them just spun when i tried to access any of my books. the 3rd cloud container (google books) showed my books but again just spun and spun when i tried to access anything. Next i tried the store. To the developers—if you have books in multiple languages PLEASE add a language filter! I picked a genre from the store. After scrolling thru dozens & dozens of german language books, i finally found some in English. I wanted to try out a free book before i purchased anything. Every free english-language book was “sold out.” I wasted 5 hours trying to open pdfs, epubs, cbz, etc.

  • It’s almost perfect

Does everything I need, cross platform logins, read multiple formats, save multiple bookmarks, a lot more. The thing is Im on Apple SE 2nd Gen and for the life of me I can’t figure out the touch gesture for exiting to main menu or pulling up options and table of contents once Im reading a book full screen. I’ve tried swiping all over the reading, which just changes pages and outside the area, holding down but it just highlights words and gives note taking options, Ive used multiple finger gestures. It just never works anyway and then it will randomly work or I have to exit whole app to exit reading but then sometimes it will take me back to main menu or just start me back in full screen reading mode and I just keep touch gesturing around the screen until the options, table of contents and back arrow pulls up. Is this just me? Or my phone not fully compatible? Developer what’s the touch gesture for exiting full screen mode to back out to my library?

Just tap once on a screen center. There should be an animation with this gesture when you open book first time after install. Have a pleasure reading.
  • Buggy update! Please read!

The new update completely wiped all my local notes, bookmarks and location I had on my books as well as corrupt books in which I uploaded to Pocketbook as a file unable to load them.

It also rendered me unable to add anymore notes, bookmarks neither does it save my page number. If I open the app, go into a book and read, add a bookmark, note or just leave the book, everything is saved. But when I exit the app itself and clear it by swiping up, suddenly all the data is gone which didn’t happen before this update.

    I have tried to:
    1. Reinstall, does not fix the problem
    2. Reimported the books, does not fix. The data remains until the app is closed, but after that the data is wiped.
    3. Getting new file copies (untampered), does not work. [includes .epub;.txt;pdf]

I checked on whether my device simply ran on an old OS or lacked storage, as well as restarting it several times just to make sure it’s not my device’s fault, but no it’s not the device’s problem.

I hope these information help. I really do enjoy reading on the app.

  • Best Free Reader App

This is the best free file reader app that I’ve tried so far. You can customize so much about the appearance of the text, from the font to the spacing to the size, you can even create custom font color/background color combinations. I love that I can highlight and add notes too. It’s so nice having the covers of all the books I’m reading on display and being able to track my progress in the book. I really love this app.

The only thing is that sometimes selecting text can get a little finicky, but that’s not a huge deal. Keep up the good work, devs!
