Reviews of Kobo Books

  • Not impressed

I’m an avid comic reader on my iPad Pro. Recently I got an incredible deal on the full current set of IDW TMNT collection through Humble Bundle that were through Kobo. I never heard of this service before this, I tend to try to stick with Kindle whenever possible, but this was a deal I couldn’t pass up. It’s a very simple reader, lacks the bells and whistles of Kindle, which is fine. The page curl animation when flipping pages though is a nice touch, and two page panels are shown perfectly with no seams or anything. My problem with the app though is it’s not keeping my place in the book. I could be about 25% through the book, suspend the app, use other apps, and when I go back in suddenly it will jump me forward to nearly the end and I will have to find my way. back to where I was. This has happened several times to me so this wasn’t a one time fluke. If any devs see this please look into fixing this issue.

Hi! We are truly sorry that you are experiencing issues with the App, please send us a direct message and we would be more than happy to try and troubleshoot any problems you may be having. Thanks!
  • Continues to improve the reader experience

I’ve been using this app for a while now, long enough for there to have been some significant updates. Some needed things have been added, like background colors, and options for columns in landscape mode. But the app is disappointingly inconsistent in applying settings to books. I can be reading in 2 columns, close the app to do something else, and come back….and no columns. Since I didn’t change any settings, and it still shows “columns in landscape” as a chosen setting, it’s hard for me to understand why it keeps changing. As a user of a separate note taking app, it would be nice to have the option to copy highlighted text and copy it, without having to do screenshots. And it would be VERY nice to have the app support split screen. I remain hopeful that the app will continue to improve, and I appreciate having a viable option other than You Know Who’s e-reader.

Updated March 2024: Now supporting split screen, which makes me very happy. Thank you!
