  • Good for the soul.

At the present I’m fare from my goal. Using STEPZ I’m sure without a doubt I will get back to my walking three miles a day.
I had pneumonia and I’m recovering and that takes a lot out of you. But! I am not going to let that stop me from getting back to my 3 mile day walk. I am so happy to discover STEPZ. By the way, I’m 80 yrs. young. People always think I’m in my 50,s...60’s...I have been weight 🏋️‍♀️lifting
Most of my life. After having pneumonia I have been able to do very little but now I am getting back into it and like I said, using STEPZ on my iPhone is a real encouragement to help me get this body back in shape. 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

  • High motivation tool

I ‘m a 71 year old woman who has two bad knees and who finds it difficult to walk. I was also fearful of walking outside and roaming too far from my home. I recently started using the step tracker and have found it to be a wonderful motivational tool. I started by walking around the inside of my house before I ventured outside, but to my surprise, I’m almost up to walking 3 miles theses days. Now instead of obsessing about eating junk food in the evening, I obsess about making or exceeding my steps each day. I love the app and check it numerous times during the day. I highly recommend it to everyone but especially to older adults who need motivation to move more.

  • One of my all time favorites

I love this app. It keeps me on track to achieve my daily walking goals. If I get to the end of the day and I’m short of my goal, I’m highly motivated to get in the remainder of my steps. I find it to be accurate and the color coding makes it easy to tell where I am in reaching my goal even if I’m not wearing my reading glasses. And I appreciate the fact that I can look at daily, monthly and yearly cumulative steps. I like setting new and higher goals and sharing my progress with other walkers in my family. I have a fit bit but I find that I don’t like it as much as this app. And don’t use the fit bit nearly as much as I use thus app. I never leave to go walking without it. Thanks so much for designing this app.

  • Starting to use this again

Hey, Even though I stopped counting my steps, my app didn’t! So when I cracked 2500 steps today, I was able to look back and see that the last time I did that was Feb 23rd. The app is also able to encourage me by showing me my long term achievements. I’ve had it about 5 years (and MyStep before then) so it shows me that I’ve walked over 1m steps in total, had the rare 10,000 step day, and walked the entire coastline of Ireland. It also tells me I’d better remember my phone the next time I go on a walk (not always a given!)

There are just a few drawbacks with this app. My biggest (okay, only) critique is that the navigation doesn’t make sense to me and it’s not easy to change my goal. Even though I’ve had it for so long, I still have to click several times to get to a place where it will change. Although that could be a connection issue? In which case I wish it would change right away and then update when there is connection. Either way, I can’t figure out how to change my goal today.

    But overall, great app.

  • Annoying ad machine that sorta counts your steps

“If it’s not broken - break it!” is the motto of one of the developers who is part of the team now in charge of Stepz, and it’s exactly what they have done with what used to be a favorite app. You are constantly bombarded with loud and intrusive ads that make using Stepz a nightmare. You get those more or less every time you switch to the app. It’s very careless to have that on an app that people use when they are physically active. It’s not just annoying and frustrating, it’s also distracting and can be a safety hazard, showing a high degree of disregard for the users from the developers. Apparently the permanent ad bar on the Stepz screen was not enough for them. What you get for all this is a very questionable aesthetics update and lots of distinction which the pre-2019 version didn’t have - your monthly, yearly, etc, totals are always miscounted after midnight. To fix it you must 1) open the app 2) force close the app 3) reopen the app (yay, ads); if you ever travel to a different time zone all your data gets totally corrupted and you have to download it from....the free in-built step counter that comes with your phone! Each and every time! And one wonders why they demand those outrageous prices for “the full experience”. All of this has been the same for quite some time now, so obviously the developer does not care for us, users of Stepz.

    Developer Response

Hi there, we are sorry to know that you are not satisfied with our app. We believe the app is a great tool to track your daily steps and offers different features that motivate our users to meet their daily goals. Therefore, we have chosen that the app is free to download and use with some ads. If you want to experience the full potential without any ads, you can sign up for the premium version. You may fix the issue related to data discrepancies when traveling across time zones by reimporting historical data. To do so, tap the cogwheel in the top-right corner > scroll down to the bottom > tap "Reimport Historical Data". These steps should solve any data discrepancy you experienced. We hope this can help you, but in case you have further doubts, we'd be glad to assist you. Drop us an email to reviews@bendingspoons.com.
  • Ruined App - Don’t Download

This is actually an updated review from one I gave a few weeks ago. I was complaining about the bugs in the app with incorrect data and a few other items. After leaving the review I noticed a follow up from one of the developers saying they had had an update that fixed a lot of the bugs so I thought I’d try updating it and see if it fixed any of them. So I deleted the app and reinstalled it (why it didn’t automatically update like the rest of my apps, and yes it’s on auto update, is a good question but one I’ll leave for later). So, after running the new app the developer was correct, those bugs are fixed. BUT, now there are so many ads that pop up it’s basically unusable! I just left it the app when an ad came up where there was no way to get out of it! Seriously! They had a really nice little app that they have screwed up so bad it’s unusable. Sad. So DONT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS APP. GO FIND A BETTER ONE. -Rob

  • Good app

This app challenged me to walk more. It is a simple yet powerful app. The best feature is the automatic goal setting. If you don't take 10,000 steps a day, this setting will ease you into that goal and encourage to to go beyond.

However, I have a complaint. I encouraged my husband to get this app. Instead of being able to buy the app there is now a subscription! And what a rate! Really? So many apps developers have become greedy. This app is great but I’m not sure it’s worth such a rate and with the black cloud of a recession or worse looming over our country there will be many that won’t be able to afford it. In addition to that, the ads are so in your face the app is not worth having without the subscription.

The app itself is worth 5+ stars but because of the high subscription rate and the in-your-face ads, I have dropped the rating down to 2 stars.

We understand your concern, but we are in the same situation and also need income to keep maintaining and improving the app. We hope you'll continue to use the app and invite you to share further doubts or feedback with us by writing to reviews@bendingspoons.com.
  • Ver Good But It Could Be Great

Use this every day to track my steps, I think it’s basically accurate and the display is nice 2 frustrations. One, traveling across time zones completely screws it up, for some reason it ends up significantly inflating the steps on every day I’m gone. This problem did not exist until the last update. Two, this could be so much better with better fun features, ie if it rewarded streaks of hitting your goal or tracked the date and number of times you hit a particular big day line 25,000 or enabled you to compete with other anonymous users in your area.

  • Now WORST. APP. EVER!!!

I would give this ZERO - 0 - stars if possible. This was once one of my favorite apps for counting steps and monitoring physical activity. Recent ‘updates’ and so-called ‘improvements’ have now made it one of my most hated. Deleting as soon as this review completed.

We all understand App development and maintenance is a business and needs to be profitable. BUT... the number of ads, games, videos and pictures (some of which are offensive in both content and noise level) is utterly ridiculous. And your supposed subscription ‘fee’ is absurd. Even though I could afford it, I would never purchase it as you have completely violated my confidence in the quality aspects of your product.

You will soon (if not already) be amongst the many failed companies who have taken a great program and trashed it. Another one bites the dust. :-(

  • “upgrade” ruined an enjoyable app

I used Stepz every day for about three years and enjoyed it. The upgrade ruined my experience and has made me seek a different app for counting steps. I understand that I may need to look at ads if I want to use the free version, but I am not willing to tolerate gambling ads that play with no way to exit them. Banner ads OK. Video ads or gameplay ads that play over and over again and can’t be exited without exiting the app? Nope. Plus the app stopped counting my steps accurately. Whole days were missed. This is not acceptable and so I’m going to move onto a different app. unfortunately there is no way to export my data from Stepz so that is three years of walking 10,000 steps a day that is lost from my step counting history. If the subscription fee had been more reasonable, I would have subscribed and paid for the app. But the subscription fee is far too high for me to consider.
