  • No longer counts steps

This used to be my go-to step counter app but a recent update (as others have pointed out) has made the app unwieldy, more difficult to use (more scrolling instead of all on one screen) and today 1.2 miles in to my walk - the app told me I had take 250 steps. Fortunately I had another exercise app installed that gave me an accurate count of 1.2 miles not .01 miles. A very big difference.

In closing, this app no longer counts steps. The developers updated this into irrelevance & missed major bugs that defeat the very purpose of this app. Very poor & very inconsiderate to users. One can only guess how poor the update testing was. Turning to other apps. I suggest those reading this do the same.

I see the developers to their credit are answering the many new negative reviews. To them I can only say do not forget the whole point of your app which is to count steps.

  • New phone

I have been using stepz for a while now. I recently upgraded my phone. I reinstalled the stepz app to find no sign in option. Or maybe I overlooked it. Idk. Went threw the steps to get to a part that says I have to pay. What!!! I just want to sign in get my progress from my old phone and be done. Using this app was helpful in tracking my progress daily. But I guess that instead of using this app I’m gonna move on to another. Sometimes things are better left unchanged. Why can’t things be easy. 😩 The only reason I’m giving you 4⭐️ is because of how useful this app use to be. Now it’s a 1 ⭐️ nobody wants to pay for something they’ve been getting for free. Plus the issues stated above. So bye bye stepz.

  • Was a nice app.

I’ve used Stepz for about three years and found it useful and it became part of my daily routine. Then it was “upgraded” - and RUINED. I don’t know what to believe. I’m on an extended vacation so I can’t compare to my usual routes but in my limited testing the upgrade is broken. Using this mornings walk if the number of steps recorded is correct (6590) my normal 27” step shows as 6.6K and 2.3 miles. If converted, via simple math, 6.6K would be 4.1 miles. Conversely the 2.3 miles would be 3.7K. Those comparisons just plain don’t agree. On or both are wrong. Further, assuming the number of steps is correct, that would have been 2.8 miles with my length of step. What is a user to believe. Come on, this only requires simple math. I am being generous giving this one star. I must now go look for an app that works better than this.

  • Deleting this app

Why are you forcing me to pay weekly for something I’ve already paid for once? This app used to be amazing and now I’m going to have to delete it. I refuse to pay $3 a WEEK for something my phone, and countless other apps would do for free! On top of that, I emailed you guys three times about not being able to recover my initial account and you NEVER RESPONDED. Thank goodness for my password book because i never would’ve recovered my account. And now that I’ve recovered my account, you don’t even offer the option to DELETE IT!!! so my information will just be sitting out in space for God knows how long. I wish i never downloaded this thing. Im definitely deleting it and removing it from my phone today. You should at least offer a basic option and then move up to premium for those who can afford it, but instead you want to FORCE all of us to pay for it. That’s greed.

  • I liked it until the last update

I downloaded this app during the summer and checked it every day through fall and winter. Overall, i find it really encouraging to know that i walked 4 or 5 miles on days when i haven’t taken time to “work out” but I’ve been busy/on my feet throughout the day. Having the data also gives me an incentive to walk at least as much as I did on other days within the last week.
But I just deleted the app last night because the last update screwed up my data. On Friday I had more than 10K steps, and on Saturday I barely had any because my phone battery was dead most of the day. after the update it showed Wednesday as having more than 12K steps but barely any for Thursday Friday or Saturday, like the one really low day was stretched out to three. I’m also skeptical about the accuracy because there have been times that i was sitting on the bus or subway for a while, and the step counter went up before I stood up. I’m not sure if I’ll download the same app to see if that fixes it or just try a different app.

    Developer Response

Hi, we appreciate you taking the time to point out the elements of the new version that are negatively affecting your experience on Stepz. Making sure that the data collected by the app is reliable for our users is a serious matter for us and our developers are working hard to release a new update in the shortest time possible. We would love to clarify the doubts that prevent you from choosing Stepz once more: feel free to send us an email to reviews@bendingspoons.com.
  • Now with a $2.99 per WEEK subscription!

Wow, at $12 per month for a step counter this new version’s premium features should be life changing. Nope, unless you consider that many people will be switching to another step counter.

I originally used this app for its simplicity and clean design, and a local only step counter without all of the extra social and awards crap, but that has changed. I can’t imagine anyone paying $2.99 a week to add an icon badge and remove Advertisements for any App that is mostly a UI for the builtin step counter.

“We currently offer the following auto-renewing subscription option: 1 week of free trial followed by $2.99 per week. By subscribing, you get unlimited access to all our premium features (historical data, advanced stats, widget, achievements, icon badge) and you will have a fully ad-free experience.”

  • Thumbs Down

Not happy with the new app. Do not like the fact you can no longer set the step length. I spent time fine tuning the old step length such that in a 4 mile walk I had my number of steps within 50-75 steps of the actual total. In addition in a four day span the number of steps recorded are bogus. One day showed Zero steps although I walked over 5 miles. The other days on either side only recorded 3200 and 3300 steps when again I walked over 5 miles each day. My step count should be 2000 steps per mile. With this new App I just walked the same 4 miles I have been walking for 3 years, the previous App recorded 8000 +/- steps and 4 miles. The new app recorded 8960 steps and 3.5 miles. Not even close! Not accurate at all.

  • Not worth $155/year!!

My sister told me about this app last year-she was over the moon about it so I got it also.
I went with this one over “Pedometer” because the display/interface was better.

    I’ve loved this app/5 stars...until this”update”!
Now...2 or 3 stars! $155/year? You have GOT to be kidding me?! It’s now like Pedometer only EXPENSIVE!
The interface is less user friendly & more cumbersome than before, the badge icon is only available if I “purchase” the app and I’ve lost my data from before May 15, 2018! Somehow I’ve also lost my data in the Apple Health app from before that same date!! I’ve had this phone/an iPhone for at least 7+ years & all my Health data uploaded to the Stepz app when I got it last year. I’ll probably be going to a different app! A real shame. Developer: yes, I know this feedback is “precious” to you. If your customers were precious you wouldn’t have gone in this direction. I do not understand some perceptions of “progress”! I say “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!” Bring back the “old” version, please?!
I think many Stepz users are feeling the same.
My sister is furious and very disappointed!

  • Why I deleted your app

For a number of years now I have been using this app I absolutely loved it I kept track of my miles daily, weekly and yearly. Since March 2015 I have walked over 6015 miles keeping track using your app. With the new update it lost almost 1000 miles of my walking, your screens became very confusing as to what I was looking for and displaying information properly. The fact that the only way to get this app to properly run is to sign up for a temporary free trial and then it goes to $2.99 per week. It is now been deleted from my phone and I’ll just have to find something that works as well if not better than stepz. Very disappointed in the changes that were made to the application. I wish you all well, thank you very much for a good product in the past.

  • Something is very wrong.

I have just downloaded the new Stepz app and the interface is much easier to use and more intuitive. There is a significant problem in how it imports your old steps data, though. All of my previous numbers are vastly inflated. For example, yesterday, with the old interface, the data showed that I walked 3.7 million steps last year. Now it shows that I walked 5.9 million steps. Every single day shows a massive increase in the number of steps over what I actually walked. Before you upgrade to this app, be sure to save your old Stepz data. I am not sure how it can be re-integrated into the current app, but people need to be aware of this problem.
