  • Quite disappointing

The game is well made and very polished no doubt - but it is quite disappointing as far as gameplay is concerned. Like the many 1 star reviews mention, it is just about remembering rules which are mentioned only once - similar to mugging up of boring subjects and topics for tests in school. Definitely not for everyone. There is a decent scope for depth in gameplay but I feel the designers are being a little lazy at some level.

  • The most boring game I've ever played

When I saw that this game had been recommended as an Editor's Choice, I decided to try it out. It turned out that this game was absolutely not worth my money. It was boring and repetitive and I stopped after just a few minutes. Later on, I tried to get a refund for my two dollars, but apparently the app was "not eligible for a refund". Warning: do not purchase this app if you would prefer to not be bored to death.

  • Beautifully made but a very simple game

I felt duty-bound to buy this game because I've enjoyed Carcassonne so much; they deserved another £1.50 from me! Just like Carcassonne, this game is beautifully made but unfortunately I quickly became bored of its simple 'remember tasks and click in order' mechanics. Back to Carcassonne I go...
  • Boring

I bought the game after seeing it was rated an Editor's Choice, but find it to be seriously boring. The idea is to memorize an increasing number of rules for which blocks to clear from the board. Once the blocks that meet rule 5 are cleared, then clear blocks according to rule 4, then rule 3, etc. You are only told each rule once, and you have to remember what each rule was going forward. Clear green blocks. Clear odd numbered blocks. Clear blocks in decreasing numeric order.

  • Addictive

I love this game. Very simple, you have to remember the rules in order to clear the board.

Downside I find I can only play in a quiet environment as I need to concentrate.

I also wish you didn't always have to start from level 1. Perhaps not every 10 levels, but every 30 levels you don't have to start back from level 1? Just a thought.

  • Great game.

I actually really enjoy this game. It starts pretty simple at first but then you are given tasks upon tasks that really keep you sharp. This almost feels like one of those memory improvement games but in the best way possible. Another thing I enjoy about it is that it is easy to pick up and play so you don't have to feel like you need to be at a specific place to enjoy this game.

  • Worth the money. Hours of fun. Best game I've played!

Yes this game is challenging but there is the fun! After several goes I finally can get past level 11 and the first 10 rules seem really easy to remember.

This game is about being quick, storing a sequence of rules in your head to apply to the grid on the screen, things like tap all the 9s, or all the whales.

As you progress you can build up, or lose, time for the next level.
Think "Dumb Ways To Die" without the annoying song, but with the added component of working on your short term working memory for the rules.

It's been great to play. I'm up to level 18!!

Edit: October 14 - keeps getting better! Timeless mode is excellent.

  • Mostly good update

I really noticed a difference ... Lightning fast response, fixed the awkward lag on the Dracula tile, great additions, such as a timeless mode, however first time playing the new version and the game presented its first bug, it seemed to have frozen and wouldn't respond to my touch on the correct tile, I watched helplessly as the clock ticked down... Hope, it was a one time thing! BTW, I love love love this game.

  • Fun but kinda buggy

Using iOS 8 on iPhone 6 Plus. Great game but it gets super frustrating when the rule is something like "tap phones" and you're tapping the one phone on the board yet the board is totally unresponsive to all taps.

Fun game, but maybe needs a little testing on the newer phones? I've only played a few games of Rules but it's bugged out every game.

  • A little gem

I bought Rules! in August when it was featured as Editor's Choice, and have played it every day since. It is a wonderfully crafted little game with the Apple touch screen at the heart of the experience (I play on Apple Touch 5), absorbing gameplay, whimsical icons and little humourous anecdotes. The original 20 second timer mode is a challenge - every second really does count - but if you are willing to persevere you not only improve, but come to appreciate just how well thought out and brilliantly structured each group of 10x10 rounds really is, and how clever the combination of mathmatical, spatial awareness and memory sequence skills need to progress. The IOS 8 upgrade adds further polish and refinement to the original 20 second timed mode (now called Expert), and for players who are not up to the old school gaming challenge of the original adds beginner and untimed modes, which responds to some of the early customer reviews and will broaden the appeal of this wonderful little puzzle game. Personally, I will be trying to complete the game in Expert mode ... currently at Level 35 of 100.
