I was having difficulty with the manual settings. ISO and shutter speed weren't recording properly -- shots would come out with different values than the settings. It was my misunderstanding of the file formats that was the cause. Now that I'm shooting in the full "Process Zero" RAW, I'm getting great photos with the correct ISO and shutter speed. What a difference! I've tried other photo apps, but I like Halide's layout and controls. (Maybe one little feature request would be to have tactile response "sticking" to some common film speed values, like 100, 400, 800, etc.) One small challenge is that there is no way for the preview to truly capture what will be recorded. I understand that it's impossible to circumvent the underlying iOS image processing. But, hey, I still remember the days of film when you got what you got a week or two later…

We're sorry to hear you're running into trouble. If you reach out to support@lux.camera we'll dive right into what could be happening.

Beware

There are a ton of similar apps and I have a paid sub to another but wanted to see if something better out there.
I clicked purchase to see the price and it clearly says ‘7 day free trial’. Clicked and purchased thinking I could cancel later if it was not what I wanted.

When tried to cancel I noted the fine print says there’s no free trial, which is contrary to what it clearly says when I clicked through to see the plans. All very clever on their part but if the app is good enough this sort of thing shouldn’t be necessary.

Misleading

I had already purchased Halide and I’m being forced to pay 79.99 if I want to use it again.

Best advanced camera app out there

Halide is a gorgeous app, and can be used as easily by professionals as beginners. Being a legacy user, I’m fortunate to get most of the features without a subscription. Personally, I’m not a fan of the subscription service, but Lux continue to add fantastic features that I feel justifies it to new users.

It can be a little laggy at times on older iPhones, but that’s to be expected.

The great thing about this app is that it’s what you make of it, you can dial the manual features right back or dial in as much as you want. It’s got a great mix and helpful guides and pointers!

Great App-quality & functionality ✔️

I've been installing and deleting this app for close to 2 years I guess,. I’ll try other apps in between and I always end up coming back here. The app does exactly what it’s meant to do, and it’s constantly improving. Main problem that I had & most likely any other I casual camera user is that you have to learn how to use it and it’s worth the time and effort as the photos are absolutely amazing compared to the stock camera in an iPhone. And I’ve got the iPhone 15 Pro Max, it literally has the capacity for greatness, but somehow Apple have not incorporated settings or instructions that into their own software - in my opinion. This app appears to be developed constantly, indicating that the creators are seeking to improve, rather than to profit from people. It’s worth paying for the app, as they deserve to be compensated for the hard work.
Thanks guys

Signed up for a 7 day trial but charged for a year after cancelling within 2 hours

Wanted to explore the app so I signed up for their 7 day trial that will turn into yearly subscription. Didn’t like it and ended up cancelling within 2 hours but ended up getting charged the subscription fee instead.

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry you're having trouble. We do offer a 7 day free trial with the yearly subscription option, and if you cancel within those 7 days you should not see a charge of any kind. If you were billed while you thought you were in the free trial, it's possible you signed up for the monthly subscription by accident instead of the yearly, activated a trial period or purchase in the past using the same AppleID, or missed the 7 day cancellation period for cancellation at which point the yearly subscription purchase would have been activated. If none of this sounds correct, it is also possible that there was a bug in the App Store that triggered a payment. Unfortunately, for privacy and security reasons, we don't have any control over App Store billing and you will need to reach out to Apple to alert them of this issue. However, you can request a refund directly from the App Store by following this illustrated guide: https://www.imore.com/how-to-get-refund-itunes-app-store

Perfect app, big issue with the subscription tactics

I LOVE the Halide interface. It’s simple and intuitive. It’s honestly perfect. I want to see the app continue and flourish, and I bought it at full price before it went subscription.

But… Halide’s ‘new features’ only ever seem to be whatever new, across-the-board hardware and software features Apple has added to the latest iOS and iPhones, re-marketed as amazing new features by Halide worth paying for. (They’re seriously making you pay for Lock Screen widgets. That’s really poor practice I haven’t experienced from any other app). In over a year of paying for it, there’s precisely one new feature of any worth to older phone users - process zero, which, whilst great, is also in other camera apps I own, for free, suggesting to me it’s just an API apple has made available to all.

In a way it’s testament to how good Halide is in the first place - there isn’t much to improve upon! But having paid full price for Halide before the subscription era, I have no idea what I’m subscribing for now.

Why it’s not free??

I opened this app to discover no usability as the trial of whatever semi use settings were no longer available. That’s fine because ac a pro photographer I have many applications available many I pay for and some who have limited use. It’s good to have different user perspectives and other designs available. I will pay full price for any photography processor or camera application that truly enhancers my workflow and experience. This app does none of that and in true Ken Rockwell fashion we need to support daddies who are designers and their growing families. If the only reason you can give me to purchase your app is that your growing family had no other means of support and that this is really great because we have struggled for eight years making it an indispensable product. I’ve seen some very good apps that I bought and used for years and the support and updates slowly dissipated to nothing. Even if I would be willing to pay for this it’s simply too expensive. Now that’s for me others might see this different.

We're sorry for any confusion. While we explain that Halide is a paid app at top of our App Store description, with a seven day free trial, we know this is easy to miss. We really wish there were a way to put this information front-and-center. Unfortunately, this is a limitation within the App Store, so we can only put this information in our App Store description. We hope that Apple offers a better way of communicating this in the future, and we apologize for this experience.

No trial

App is a free download, but you are immediately asked to subscribe to try the app. Not for me.

This app violates apple rules

You cannot have a app that is useless unless you make an in app purchase..
