I’ve tried using this app in all settings and environments and I always get the same result,,,,, NO FILTER NEEDED
I’m shooting outside in full sun and I know I need to use an ND filter but according to the app, I don’t.Developer Response
Hi, thanks for your feedback. If you feel that you get filter recommendations too late you can go to the settings page and lower the value for the desired dynamic range. This will affect the manual and the automatic mode and give you filter recommendations more early. The best value depends on your workflow, so you might try to lower it step by step and see if the results fit your expectations. To get the best results on your camera, always shoot in RAW mode, set the exposure to match the highlights in the sky and recover the shadows in post processing. By doing so you can often get away without using a filter (even in broad daylight) but the shadows may appear black on the cameras live view. This depends on the cameras sensor.Fanatastic ND calculator
I came across this to help my wife who is new to photography. This is a fantastic app. Allows recommendation based on light conditions, calculates shutter speed using base line exposure then providing longer shutter speeds based on you ND filter density. This is a must have. And it’s FREE!!!Very useful app when using filters on your DSLR!
Really surprised this app doesn’t have more ratings and reviews—especially since it’s *free* and doesn’t even have any ads (thank goodness... can’t stand ads and all the tracking that goes on when you use apps that have them!) The developer has put together a great collection of calculators and tools for dealing with exposures that can benefit from ND filters. Thanks for a great app, Stefan!Show less
