  • Doesn't work

90% of the time this app just pisses me off and makes me want throw my phone.
  • Great concept, horrid execution

I've been using the Gain Fitness app with my personal trainer for about 9 months. When it works, it's amazing, because I get a custom built workout that I can do on my own and the workout guidance, voice-overs and exercise videos are great. The problem is that the app is horribly buggy. About 25% of the time, I can't get my workout due to some technical problem with the app. It also fails 75% of time to allow me to give post-workout feedback to my trainer. I've reported this bug repeatedly, but it hasn't been fixed in MONTHS. That's the final problem - no customer service and no responsiveness from the company. If there were another option like this, I'd switch in a heartbeat to eliminate all the frustration.

  • Where is this?

Confused and not in my area but advertised that it is
  • Very different experience

I started with a gain trainer 8 months ago and I have never felt more fit. I've never done anything like this - in person and an app but it is cool and it works for someone busy like me.
  • Makes me feel like a rich movie star!

I’ve been using Gain Fitness for 2 weeks now. It reminds me of Uber limos years ago - bringing the "personal trainer" luxury to the middle-class. Gain fitness makes me feel like a rich celebrity with a personal trainer who does regular HOME VISITS!!

    Pros:
    1) I like how I can now workout from my home. I am much more likely to maintain my workout schedule. No more smelling like sweat on the bus with other sweaty people at 6PM. No more bringing gym bags to work. No more showering at the gym. No more commuting 20 min to the gym on a Sunday afternoon.

    2) My trainer (Matthew) is a certified personal trainer! When I was on a work trip last week he setup a hotel friendly (i.e. bodyweight) workout for me. I also like how I can text him anytime if I have trouble with a workout. Matthew also happens to live 2 blocks from me (I'm in SF), so it makes home visits very easy.

    3) It REALLY helps to stay motivated when you have a trainer (real person) who you meet once to few times a month. In theory I can ask the trainers at my old gym for help too, but maybe I was too embarrassed. At the gym they always try to up-sell you stuff. In fact, they build their business by having you pay and then rather you never visit?!?!

    Cons:
    1) I would say that the app is 70% done. I found some small bugs here and there. Also, some of the animations can be clearer.

    2) I would like to be able to attach photos and videos in the chat with my trainer. Right now the messaging is text only.

I emailed Gain Fitness for a special deal where I pre-paid 9 months and received a set of free home equipments ($300 value). I end up paying about the same cost per month as my old gym membership (~$70). I would recommend investing $200 on a home gym if you have nothing.

  • Worthless download

There was nothing to this except a potential meetup. No reason for this to be an app.
  • Personal Training of the Future

I have been working with my trainer for three months now. I LOVE the service. I used to work with a personal trainer that charged $120/session. GAIN Fitness charges only a little more than that, BUT I get workouts personalized for me, from my trainer, four times/ week. Essentially It costs me the same as meeting with my old trainer for an hour as it does now when I get around 20 workouts/ week from my trainer to do over the app, in addition to meeting her in-person.

Perfect for anyone that doesn't want to pay $120+ for a trainer do be with them in-person but still wants the structure and quality that a trainer provides. Also great for me because I don't have time to schedule training sessions but it is a service I appreciate and need.

    Really innovative service--highly recommend.

  • The best workout app

Personal training for on the go. Great app and much cheaper than a traditional personal trainer.
  • Not as advertised

The biggest problem with this app is you can only enter one zip code to get pricing, after that you are locked to that zip code and cannot change it. I live in fairfield county, Connecticut so I had to do several accounts, tried denver zip 80123 and it said not available, finally did a San fran zip and got $129/month. If you pay a private trainer cash here, one that doesn't work at a big box gym, you can get nearly once a week training for that price. So the advertised 1/5th cost is misleading. Waste of time.

  • One major flaw...

I haven't been able to test this out because I entered ONE unsupported zip code and I was locked out for life. I was planning to try a bigger city option around where I work but the zip code entry is a one time deal. Unless I try to delete the data for the app or delete the app Itself (which may work), then I have no chance of ever seeing this app in action. Please fix!
