Scammers — I’m paying for this app and can’t access the content
I’ve been a subscriber to The Economist Espresso for years now. When the app works, it’s tremendous content and worth paying for.

However, it’s been nearly impossible to access the content on a daily basis for a while now. I tried talking to their customer support team and they were useless. So, in the meantime, The Economist is taking my money without providing a service.

Terrible, I’d give 0 stars if I could. They also tried to contact me after another 1 star review I left, and were no help there either.

Glitch
After using this app for over a year I can now only see the videos section and nothing else. It is useless now. Not sure if this was due to a recent update

Great but UX has gone backwards
Great news snippets but now I can only see the news for the current day. The older version used to be able to read back one week’s worth of history which I found a great way to catch up.
Now I see notifications from a few days ago but I can’t find those articles. Such a shame the user experience has gone backwards.

Read (not listen to) the key news moving the world
I like the content of the app…but I don’t much care for the audio version. I find that the speakers for the audio version are not of the same high caliber as those for The Economist; and listening to the repetitive bore of the daily quiz, combined to having to listen to who the weekly winners are is a major distraction. As a result, I now prefer reading the Espresso rather than listening to it.

Great app but personalised content limited
Is there any way I can personalise my feed by choosing topics without allowing my data to be sold onto third parties? It seems to use the personalisation feature I must enable data to be on sold. Hope I’m missing something??? I am paying ~30$ per month so would expect full access to features.

Doesn’t play the correct date
The app keeps playing yesterday’s story. This has been happening since 2023. I reported this to the Economist several times but their teams obviously have not taken action. This seems like an easy fix compared to how much we’re paying for this. It displays the correct date and title stories but the audio is the same as from the day before. It takes me several attempts of closing the app and restarting it to play correctly. Also, can you get rid of including the daily quiz in the audio? It’s SO ANNOYING!

Confusing Data Tracking Policy
The option for “Do Not Sell My Data” offered, however, it is stated that the app will still collect and share personal data with 3rd-parties when it benefits the UX of the service. Why give an option at all?

Furthermore, if “Do Not Sell My Data” is enabled the ability to select interest for the 3 daily redirects back to the Privacy Settling page until the option is disabled.

The main condensed content available aside from this is well written easy to access.

Poor app doesn’t refresh the news
This app is very frustrating. Many times it refuses to update the news and it plays the same news as yesterday. Makes me feel like Groundhog Day! It shouldn’t be this difficult to refresh each day :(

Thé best served information espresso !
I start my day with this brief digest of high quality news delivered the first thing in the morning! I am a long term reader of The Economist, probably for well over 20 years The Economist has been m’y my reference for the weekly news. And what a delight to have this handy app tjrs provides a daily digest of the key news features. Thank you The Economist Espresso for bringing light into the chaos of news and opinions.

Stop trying to trick me into changing my privacy settings!
I finally deleted this app. It regularly opens up with confirming privacy settings but the misleading primary button doesn’t accept your current settings but permits all uses. NOT COOL. I expect better from the Economist.
