2.11.6

July 12, 2024

50 new items added to the app's database so the app now includes 400 foods and drinks color-coded for plants, prebiotics, probiotics and ultra-processed foods (UPFs) to support a healthy gut microbiome diet.

More

2.11.5

June 16, 2024

Twenty new items added to the app's database and improved color coding to support a healthy gut microbiome diet as follows. All plants that can be included as one of the 30 different types of plant per week recommended by experts for a healthy gut microbiome are highlighted in green type and with a green leaf icon in the food popups. The most prebiotic plants (ie, those that are particularly beneficial for the gut microbiome) are highlighted in a darker green type. Fermented foods that contain beneficial live microbes to become part of the gut microbiome (probiotics) are highlighted in gold type and with a gold microbe icon in the food popups. Foods that are likely to be ultra-processed (UPFs) — ie, contain ingredients not found in a home kitchen such as preservatives, flavorings, and emulsifiers — and are likely to have a harmful effect on the gut microbiome are highlighted in red type and with a red warning triangle in the food popups.

More

2.11.3

June 2, 2024

Improvements to the "Add Food" screen — toggle the "Values per serving" option for mg/100g, mg1oz, or mg/serving for iron content; use color codes and icons to highlight added foods as plant, probiotic or ultra-processed (UPF)

More

2.11.2

May 27, 2024

Color-coded type and icons on food popups in the 330-item database now identify healthy (plant, prebiotic, probiotic) and unhealthy (likely to be ultra-processed) foods (UPFs) to support a healthy gut microbiome diet. A notepad has been added to the record intake screen.

More

2.10.7

April 5, 2024

Average daily iron intake is now displayed at the top of "Month view" screens in red type. Iron intake over 120% of target on any day is now indicated by a red exclamation mark within the daily total ring. Bug fixes and minor revisions to "How to use the app" instructions.

More

2.10.6

February 14, 2024

Redesigned "barcode scanning" screen and text popup to improve functionality on all devices, including mini iPhones. Revised coding for daily listing of logged foods so foods attributed to different meals, eg breakfast, appear together even if entered at separate times; and the ingredients of recipes logged appear in the popups detailing the contribution of each ingredient to the daily target.

More

2.10.2

January 10, 2024

The 212 plant-based foods/beverages in the 328-item database provided with the app now appear in the “Iron in foods" section, searches, and daily and long-term logs in green type to help users consume the 30+ different types of plant per week recommended by experts for a healthy gut microbiome.

More

2.9.1

November 14, 2023

Improvement to recording intake of the same food on different occasions during a day so each recording will be listed as a separate item identified by the meal and/or time of intake when you overwrite a previous entry if you confirm in the popup it should be a new entry rather than a change to the previous entry.

More

2.9.0

November 1, 2023

Three new features: 1. Record & track time or meal (eg lunch) when recording food/beverage intake. 2. "How to use the app” instructions are now numbered 1–15 to indicate the steps to take when the app is first installed to become familiar with the app's capabilities; they have also been revised to highlight the need to allow the app access to your iPhone or iPad camera, microphone and speech recognition to scan barcodes and use dictation and speech recognition. 3. Sample recipes can be easily identified and deleted if desired, and a bug has been fixed.

More

Revised "How to use the app" instructions to improve usability. New app icon.

Price History of Iron Counter and Tracker

Description of Iron Counter and Tracker

Use this app to avoid iron deficiency, which is common in menstruating women, vegetarians and vegans and people on low-protein, ultra-processed food (UPF), restricted (eg gluten-free, dairy-free) and fad diets. Symptoms of iron deficiency include excessive fatigue due to anemia (which can lead to heart and other muscle damage), impaired mental and physical development, and immune dysfunction. Extra iron is needed during pregnancy. The app can also help people with hemochromatosis avoid iron overload. Set your target daily iron intake based on guidance provided in the app and your preferences for weights of food (g or oz) and display of iron content in foods and beverages (ie, %target/serving, mg/100g or mg/1oz, or %target/100g or %target/1oz). Record food and beverage consumption using the barcode scanner if in the US, dictation, search or by favoriting foods and using the serving sizes provided (which can be changed at any time). Tap the notepad to add notes. Monitor daily and long-term progress, export data to share with healthcare providers, synchronize data with other First Line Medical Communications Ltd nutrient counter apps, and share data with Apple's HealthKit. Add your own foods and recipes and change serving sizes to personalize the app's 400-item database for you. The app also provides nutritional information for many healthy foods and supports a healthy gut microbiome diet using color-coded type and icons as follows: 1. Plants that can be included as one of the 30 different types of plants per week recommended by experts for a healthy gut microbiome are in green type with a green leaf icon in the food popups. The most prebiotic plants (ie, those that are particularly beneficial for the gut microbiome) are in a darker green type. 2. Fermented foods that contain beneficial live microbes to become part of the gut microbiome (probiotics) are in gold type with a gold microbe icon in the food popups. 3. Foods that are likely to be ultra-processed (UPFs) — ie, contain ingredients not found in a home kitchen (eg, preservatives, flavorings, and emulsifiers) likely to harm the gut microbiome are in red type with a red warning triangle in the food popups. UPFs cause obesity for a variety of reasons and their harmful effect on the gut microbiome is linked to inflammation and many diseases including type 2 diabetes, high LDL "bad" cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, inflammatory diseases, cancer, depression, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's dementia and Parkinson's disease.

  • Useless App - You pay for working for them

Almost nothing is available in the database. You have to type the iron content of almost everything you eat which is time consuming and extremely annoying. So basically, I paid $5 for working for the app developer as I am the one telling to the app the iron content of almost all the products I eat, then they can incorporate that information into the database that they are using for generating profits. What a scam!

    Developer Response

We would like to clarify that nobody who buys and uses the app is working for us (which is why the app is not free). Whatever you add to the app is for your benefit only and appears only in your app's database. To maintain your privacy, we have no knowledge of what you are doing with the app or who you are. The database provided with the app contains 325+ common foods curated and developed by us for users to find a close fit.
  • Not intuitive and lacking in catalog of foods

I want to like this app, but it doesn’t have the basic features needed, or simplicity for most people. I think if this product were a side feature or plug in for a food tracker like my fitness pal or something it would work. Those other apps lack tracking like this for specific micronutrients like iron, and for people that need that, this would be a great add. But this app doesn’t have the volume or variety of foods that one of those apps has, and people are not likely to use this AND that separately to track diet and iron.

    Developer Response

We have now added in a barcode scanner. In addition, we provide a 325+ database of common unbranded foods and beverages. We also include App Previews on the App Store to provide guidance on how to use the Settings tab to set your preferred units for weights (g or ounces) and for amounts of nutrient (in terms of weight or % daily target) per serving and per weight unit, and how to record your intake by dictation, search and favoriting if you don't use the barcode scanner. This guidance is also provided in the "How to use the app" instructions included with the app.
  • Question

Sorry to write this here but can’t find another source for contact. Love the app but I’m wondering about the measurement. It says grams but is it actually milligrams. Seems all other iron info sites are measuring everything in milligrams and I just want to make sure I’m converting if necessary. Thank you

    Developer Response

The app uses USDA FoodData Central (https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/) and the USDA and US HHS Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025, available at DietaryGuidelines.gov. for food and beverage iron content and recommended daily iron intake. Iron is measured in mg and food weights in g if that is your chosen weight measurement (you can choose g or oz on the screen accessed via the Settings tab).
