APRS Mobile

Iโ€™ve been using radio based APRS for several years now. I live in a semi remote area that covers the radio world just fine but for a bike or walking forget it. I downloaded the app,, setup was easy and it works like a charm. I thought it would chew my battery and data but it actually is pretty easy on both.I use an Iphone 6 on the Public Mobile sustem (Telus) Settings are easy to set via a menu and you can see yourself on the map. You will need to get a server number as you connect directly to the APRS -IS servers.. that can be done online or throgh an app.I have mine on smart beacon and it only uses a few meg of data in 2 hours.

This app doesnโ€™t work!

I tried using all the features and functions on this app, it while itโ€™s great for reporting my position it show me absolutely no one on the map at any time. This was NOT a cheap app. I want to try to the sport link to get support, it errors outโ€ฆ It makes me wonder where my money is going, and for what?

Save your money and go to something differentโ€ฆ

Smartbeaconing doesn't appear to work

Since the entire app works on the smartbeaconing premise, for which this app doesn't appear to catch turns, your APRS tracks are spotty. Big, big, big disappointment with this app after using APRSdroid for years.

Updated Does work with iOS 11

Update 26 September 2017
Received note from ops that Apple was wrong. So, tried it today and DOES work on iOS 11. As such back to five stars.

Per iTunes this is a 32 bit program and will not work with iOS 11.
Tried going to developers webpage to see if they had plans to update but web page appears dead. Worked ok when in cellular range.

Response from developer

This is incorrect. The app is 64 bit and will continue to work no problem with iOS 11.

Great APRS app

I have been using this app for a few days and it works well. A beacon now button would be useful but not necessary. Just a great app for APRS.

Most modern design but still missing features

In iOS's attempt to get on APRSDroid's level, this comes nowhere close.

This is the most modern of the iOS APRS apps, so it isn't burdened by older generation art and graphics.

It's the only iOS app that supports SmartBeaconing, and allows you to set all parameters. However, corner pegging does not work as long as I have used it...so that just puts it even with the other APRS apps.

It doesn't report altitude or allow you to use any telemetry or weather.

Its missing messaging and a packet soundmodem. If it has those features it would basically be APRSDroid.

Often when using Google Maps or waze, all APRS apps will stop beaconing without notice including this one.

Also, a huge gripe of mine is background tracking EVEN AFTER CLOSING the app from the drawer. To fully prevent it from using your location you must disallow it in iOS privacy settings. You may be able to prevent it by turning high drain mode off, smartbeaconing off, and closing the app.

Also what's pedestrian resolution? I haven't seen a difference or found an explanation yet.

Finally, the author mentions this app is for tracking and data only, not including main APRS features. That's nonsensical. To incorporate the features of this app into OpenAPRS would be both ideal and trivial.

Doesn't have an audio modem!

This app is fine for the weekender HAM that doesn't actually own a radio, but if you're looking to use it as a TNC to beacon your location or receive APRS where there isn't a cell signal, look elsewhere. The whole point of APRS is it works without cell reception; where I need APRS and where I have cell are mutually exclusive. Also, even if it did have an audio modem, the lack of messaging makes it especially worthless and against the spirit of APRS. APRS is much, much more than just position reporting, which is all this app does, and it does it poorly. Waste of money.

Works great and then it just won't work

Works great and then it just won't work. I wanted something dependable to use while doing events motorcycle do that our Communications Command station can track me.
Well, tested this several times. Not consistent.
At $4.99, I expect this to be very consistent and operational.
Bunch of crap at times. Great at other times. Now I have it tracking me in truck for past hour and it stopped tracking 30 min ago. Why? I don't know.
No direct support email or contact via app or App Store.

What? They don't care?
Fix this and upgrade it, please.

Ticks all the boxes but one

Have only just downloaded this app and it looks like a good app. Ticks all the boxes but one, WHERES the beacon now button! For some reason openAPRS have a problem with this user deciding when to beacon. Hopefully one day Greg will get over this hang up and make this app perfect for me.

HUGE PIECE OF CRAP!!

I try to search for my buddy in San Angelo,Tx while I'm in San Antonio and it can't find my him. I try to shrink the map to include San Angelo and the app locks up and it takes forever to force close the app!! Then there is no email for app support!! You click on app support in this area and all it does is take you to a website FAQ!!! REALLY????

I was using iBCNU before and it was excellent!! Then google turned off the map API and screwed that up. APRS.fi website is even shut down on google maps.
This is the biggest piece of garbage EVER!!!!
I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!
