  • Search function not working

Like the review below, I have used this app for years and it has been brilliant. Unfortunately now the search function is faulty. When search is clicked, the search bar is nearly fully hidden at the top of the screen. While can still search, I cannot see the search bar and once I have selected a fell, I cannot exit the search function or go back. I have to fully close the app and reopen. I really hope this can be fixed as this is my main way of planning all my routes. Thanks

Thanks for the review. Testing with an iPhone 11 and iOS 17.1.1 doesn’t reproduce the fault in portrait mode. It does look like there is an issue in landscape mode. Please update to the latest version of iOS and retry in portrait mode.
  • Search function not working properly

I love this app and have been using it for years but in the last month it has stopped working properly. I’m running IOS17.0.3
If I type in the fell I am looking for the search function finds it but there is no visible search button (I’m effectively typing onto the screen image of the Lake District)
This means I cannot access the map to check routes or clear the fell I was searching for
    Please can you assist

  • Very useful, beautiful maps

This app was very useful on a recent trip to the Lake District, both for walking around town and for a larger hike. The maps are easy to read and helped me discover wonderful places like the Sheriff’s Walk in Bowness.
  • Errr… what they said. Brilliant.

Difficult to say anything more than others already have, but this is head and shoulders above any other app you’re going to find for the Lakes. While I always carry a paper map just in case I rarely, if ever, need to refer to it. A compass to check direction and OS locate to check altitude if the weather is really bad is a good idea, but otherwise you can’t really do better than this. Has got me up and down 207 of the 214s via multiple routes without any problem. There are lots of paths in the Lakes that aren’t old public rights of way so aren’t included, as with OS, but being able to important others’ gpx files sorts that one out. Some of finer detail of OS maps is missing - walls, etc - but it also removes a lot of the clutter, and the colouring makes it a lot easier to read than the horrible red and orange mess of OS. In a word, brilliant. Thank you!

  • Brilliant

Love the app. Used it for multiple trips to the lakes without failure. I have used it far more times than a paid for OS map. I would go as far as saying it’s the best app I’ve got for value for money.

I have one very small issue that does bother me slightly… every few times coming off the app and going back onto it, I get a pop up asking me to rate the app. I wish there was a way to stop this. It’s a little frustrating when out walking in poor weather and wanting to go between apps for things.

    Thank you.

Updated response 24/03/20... iOS 13.4 seems to have fixed this issue. Please download iOS 13.4 (released today) and retest. Previous response... Thanks for the positive feedback. Here's some guidance re: your request for information about downloading gpx files.... https://www.facebook.com/JOMOMaps/posts/733846250115287
  • Really handy app for days out in the Lakes.

This is such a useful app for days out in the Lake District. I use it all the time. As you zoom in and out - you get just enough detail at each level to make it very 'usable'.
It's great for finding new routes, paths and identifying the names of fells.
I'd obviously always take a paper OS map for any serious walking up the fells, but this app is very convenient for a quick check on the move, or when you haven't time to unfold a full map.

  • One of the best walking apps

This is one of the best apps ever made for walkers. In the Lake District quite often there is no mobile signal, and this app will always show you where you are on a very detailed map. Even in fog and mist you can see where you are and if you’re heading the right way. I have even used it to find car parking spaces when there is no mobile signal! I like the crosshair function where I can see how far it is to walk to a certain point.

I always plan my routes first using Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 maps and the Wainwright pictorial guide books. I also have the Peak District app and it would be great if there were more places covered. I have been using this app for several years now, and I can still recall the first time I used it when my walking buddy told me he had also got a new walking app, and it was this very one!

  • This will only download when you are told of the “secret” approach

Bought this and tried to get it to install (on a fully IOS up to date iPhone 12 Pro Max) and it won’t install. The developer suggested the fix was to kill all open apps, which worked.

However, I waisted a load of time trying to make it work before they responded to this review a few days after purchase. So leaving as a one star until they update the app to fix this (I know of no other apps with this issue), or have an automatic installation email sent to people who purchase the app, or do something else that has a similar impact of reducing this annoyance.

Response updated on 20/05/21. It’s pleasing to read the workaround we identified overcame the install issue. There is a delay between when reviews and responses are published as its assumed Apple preview the comments first. So, although our reply was given at the first opportunity, it will have been a few days before seen by the reviewer. Our web site provides a service to send messages which we can reply to more quickly. Thanks for updating your response to acknowledge the workaround helped. We hope you like the app now you have installed it. Finally, unfortunately the install issue will need to be fixed by Apple. We can only provide the given workaround. Original response... Please “kill” all the apps that are running in background and retry. This action is know to workaround the fault with the install.
  • Excellence

I’ve used the Lakes, Snowdonia, Yorkshire and Peak District apps for years now. I never normally leave reviews but was sharing the app with a friend and thought I would. The route mapping is great. I normally use ‘plot a route’ website online to plot my routes then send the route to my phone by email, save to files, then import. You can easily import routes already made online by gpx aswell. I rarely do it but can even plot routes on the app itself. The detail is great. I love being able to pinpoint my location. I can’t fault these apps. I’ve ticked off nearly all the Nuttalls using it. It’s been invaluable

  • Lake District

Fantastic maps very easy to use just spent a week in the Lake District using to navigate can’t get lost anymore 🤣 900 meters up in mist no visibility but this works perfect . Should also have a map and compass as back up. I have the Snowdonia one as well and regularly use brilliant. More parking detail would be fantastic for locations. Don’t hesitate to buy you will wonder what you did without it. Thank you .
