There's a fun new "Virtual Coin" option in the coin menu. Shake your device, the coins flip, and you generate your line. And we now have a "Clear" Button for the question box thanks to a suggestion from a user. Such a simple and seemingly obvious improvement that I somehow did not think of in the 8 years I've been developing this app. I also eliminated the confusing 'push-down' effect which made it appear to some new users that hexagrams were being generated top-down. There were many other little tweaks and bug fixes, including a doozy found by a user who was numbering their questions. That inadvertently triggered the "look up by notation" feature. That's the one where you can type 11.23 into the question box and see hexagram 11, Peace, with changing lines in the second and third place. It's a great research feature, and now it only triggers when a properly formatted number is entered. Finally, I added a link to buy me a coffee, cuz I love coffee, and a kind user who bought me several told me to.

Per popular request, when you cast a hexagram the bottom line now appears in a fixed position, with new lines appearing above and eliminating the confusing 'push-down' effect. I had many new users write thinking I was generating hexagrams from the top down, so thank you for helping me clear this up. Bunch of other little tweaks and bug fixes, including a doozy found by a user who was numbering their questions. That inadvertantly triggered the "look up by notation" feature. That's the one where you can type 11.23 into the question box and see hexagram 11, Peace, with changing lines in the second and third place. It's a great research feature, and now it only triggers when a properly formatted number is entered. Among the features you will NOT find is the ability to lock your journal with a password. Sorry, those of you who requested this one, try as I might I could not find a way to ensure all three of my requirements for this feature could be implemented. I wanted to make sure 1. It was REALLY secure, 2. It had a way to get your journal back if you forgot your password and 3. It wouldn't create a support burden that would overwhelm my little just-me support team. Honestly, I think device security is your best bet for keeping your journal from prying eyes.

You can now search the entire library of Hexagram and changing line text from a search box in the Library. For users of the Baynes translation, the missing text for Hexagram 32, and many typos, have been fixed. Trigram images have been updated to include more information Many other minor bug fixes and text corrections. This release sunsets Apple Watch support. Watch support may be restored in future releases.

By popular demand: A Notes area where you can store commentary and context for your journal of readings. Journals can be filtered by keyword in notes or question, or by hexagram number of results. More space for longer questions. Ability to synchronize journals between devices. New icon set fixes bug which sometimes displayed emojis. Toggle between english language interpretations and the original text in Chinese.

By popular demand: Full text search - find all the hexagrams containing a word or phrase, whether it's in the Image, Judgment, or Line texts. Works in the original Chinese version of the library as well. Filter your journal by question text: users with large journals have been asking for this one for a while. Find old castings with text search. Bug fixes: Commas in questions now captured and turned to em-dashes.

Minor bug fix: Share buttons now working again on older versions of iOS (thanks for the heads up, Grace!) A long requested feature: you can now swipe-left through a reading and swipe-right to go back Tap gesture enabled to let you generate your hexagram lines by tapping anywhere on the screen An image error in the Lake trigram image has been corrected (thanks, John!) A certificate error which caused the help menu to display an "Untrusted" warning has been fixed The entirety of the original Chinese text has been added as a beta feature and is accessible by typing "ChineseText" in the question box Various minor usability issues have also been addressed A bug in 10.0.5 which rendered icons and splash page as Cordova icons and on some devices and invalidated Firebase reporting was squashed.

Description of I

Simply the best. Whether you're new to the I Ching or have used the book as an oracle, an aid to creativity, or a mirror of your subconscious, you'll love the clarity of writing, the intuition in the design, and the simplicity of use of this digital I Ching or Yi Jing. The modern, no-nonsense interface delivers new users straight to the basics: you ask a question, the I-Ching answers. For old souls who know the book well this app holds a wealth of features for deeper research. There's a journal where you can save and search your questions and readings, a notes area where you can record any length of text as context, a lookup library organized by number and trigram. You can recreate any I Ching reading using decimal notation. Cast a line at a time, an entire hexagram with a button press, or shake the phone gently to cast virtual coins. Original Chinese text and the Legge Translation included in an alternative selectable library. The I Ching software engine emulates precisely the ancient yarrow stalk method, which was slightly more likely to cast yang than yin. A changing yin line is very rare using stalks, but of equal probability to changing yang using coins. The ancient divination method uses stalks rather than coins. If you prefer to count your own stalks or cast your own coins there's a manual hexagram builder to look up and record your results.  The wisdom and philosophy of the ancient Chinese texts blend seamlessly with commentaries that gently mix a dash of modern poetry, a pinch of humor, and cultural grace notes from the worlds of art, music, divination, literature and Human Design to bring you what many daily users have called the very best I-Ching app available. --------- Among my favourite reviews: "Of all the versions I've used, your renderings of the Book of Changes are my heart-felt favorites. They have inspired me, made me laugh and cry and everything in between." “Pretty profound! This Iching app gave me spot-on advice. I've never paid for an app before, but I had a strong urge to get this one. I'm impressed! Not to sound all new-age but I totally laughed out loud at the reading it gave me, it was like it was sitting here looking over my shoulder and telling me exactly what I needed to know about my grumpy husband. P.S. Grumpy husband called and apologized..." "Carl Jung would have been happy to have this Yi Jing on his phone - great to use, unfussy, untechy, respectful of the original. The journal feature is great for storing readings and referring back. Well done!" --------- All of us sometimes need a sympathetic ear and wise guidance, whether it's in matters of romance or finance: the I-Ching can become a companion along life’s journey like no other. It's a book that helps you explore questions and, if you're lucky, find answers: Whether you believe it's because the book is an oracle or the answers are simply unearthed from your subconscious -- the book's true magic lies in its ability to be a helpful guide (sometimes astoundingly so) to all these different forms of curiosity. Following the tradition of Baynes and countless interpreters of the original texts, I've written commentaries which borrow words and inspiration from a multitude of sources: Bob Dylan, Lao Tzu, Doctor Who, the Tarot, T.S. Eliot, Emily Dickinson, John Lennon, Maya Angelou, the Grateful Dead and Martin Luther King all make appearances. The language, unlike so many translations, makes every attempt to be gender-neutral when it's not gender-specific. I wanted the sparest interface possible. No fake parchment backgrounds, no gimmicky images of bamboo or cartoon sages with oracles and winning lottery numbers. I strived to create a quiet, reflective, slowed down experience in an environment that normally shouts. I hope you enjoy using this I-Ching app as much as I enjoy crafting it, improving it, and hearing from people who have found it helpful in their lives.

  • Scholarly and restrained

This app has everything I need to explore and record my interactions. So far, it’s flawless.
  • Sincerely the best I-Ching app on any platform

The method by which hexagrams are generated is eerily prescient, thanks to the extensive work Brian has done to bring the superior yarrow stalk method into the digital age. You can also cast your own hexagrams and the app will help you log your reading.

The translations for each hexagram are thoughtful and brilliant and open doors for reflection I wasn’t aware needed opening.

The app is austere and simple, and that’s to its credit. It loads quickly, has a full library of hexagrams that can be searched, a record-keeping system and a easy backup method that doesn’t rely on an expensive cloud system.

I have purchased this app on multiple platforms and will continue to recommend it to others. I’ve emailed Brian with questions and suggestions before and he’s been quick to reply.

    I am eternally grateful. ☺️

  • Super user friendly edition of a classic.

If you are an I Ching user then this is one of the easiest and most succinct apps.

Of course it’s I Ching lite but as ever it’s still I Ching precise and I always have a well thumbed edition of the Wilhelm translation standing by if I need to go deeper on any reading.

    Highly recommended.
