We've removed some code that was no longer needed. Then we fixed a couple of bugs that subsequently scurried out. These were very mean bugs that made a lot of people blue, and if that was you, we hope this update comes to your rescue and returns things to normal PDQ. Additionally, the Troubleshooting view, an essential part of the crew, wanted to join the party so it had a few bugs expunged, too. Happy cooking, Joule friends!

Price History of Joule

Description of Joule

Get access to the best sous vide recipes and control Joule, the world’s smallest, most powerful sous vide tool, with the Joule App. From raw to ready, the app coaches you through the whole process, so cooking sous vide is simple. Just pick what you want to cook, and we’ll walk you through the rest. The Joule App includes groundbreaking features like Visual Doneness, precise temperature control from anywhere, and a robust collection of recipes and cooking guides created by the ChefSteps team. Joule and its app were built and designed from scratch to work together, and we’re just as dedicated to the quality of our products as we are to the food we make with them. You can read more about Joule and the Joule App in publications like CNET, Wired, Lifehacker, Food & Wine, and Network World. HOW DOES THE JOULE APP WORK? You tell us what you’re cooking, we tell you when it’s ready. Making a two-inch steak? Great. Just tap the Start button, and Joule will set a timer for perfect doneness. Get notified when your steak is ready—and we’ll also tell you how much longer it can stay in the water without overcooking. WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE JOULE APP? • Exclusive access to our cooking guides: The app comes with step-by-step guides for everything from perfect fried chicken, to succulent salmon, to the best steak you’ve ever had in your life, helping you unlock the power of sous vide. What’s even better? We’ll keep adding new guides (and updating old ones) all the time. • Visual Doneness: Choose exactly how you want your food to look when it’s done, then press go, and Joule does the rest. No more filtering through online forums to get the information you need. Visual Doneness takes the guesswork out of sous vide. • Step-by-step instructions, so you can learn as you go: Every cooking guide comes loaded with quick videos that’ll teach you new techniques and help you get the best results. • Notifications that let you know when your water is hot and your food is done, no matter where you are. Not ready to eat? We’ll tell you how much longer your food can stay in without overcooking. • Bluetooth and Wifi control, so you can cook from anywhere. WHAT IS SOUS VIDE COOKING AND HOW DOES IT WORK? Chefs have been cooking sous vide for decades to get perfect proteins and amazing new textures. But, it’s not fancy or complicated—Joule heats water to a very specific temperature, so you can cook food gently, with super-human precision. The water never gets hotter than you want the food to be, so it won’t overcook. HOW DO I GET JOULE? Visit chefsteps.com/joule to learn more. CAN I STILL USE THE JOULE APP IF I HAVE ANOTHER SOUS VIDE TOOL, LIKE NOMIKU, SANSAIRE, OR ANOVA? Absolutely! You can still use our sous vide guides and Visual Doneness in the Joule App to figure out your favorite times and temperatures, then manually set your other tool and make amazing meals at home. • If there was a zero stars option …

Every time I try to start the Joule, it ‘Keeps Looking’. I am (right now) trying to start the Joule to cook dinner. I have restarted the app several times, pressed the button on the top of the Joule, unplugged, Nothing works. It won’t connect to the Joule. When I troubleshoot, it says ‘WiFi COnnected’ and ‘Bluetooth Connected’. the start screen says ‘Time to update firmware.’ But the Settings say ‘WiFi Unavailable’ and ‘Update Firmware’ is dimmed because I have seen a message saying ‘Firmware up to date.’ It’s either a trashy app, a trashy Joule, or both. I wish I had my Anova again. All I had to do was turn the physical dial to set the temperature and press the button to start it. I was seduced by the cool looks of the Joule Never again. I wish I could rturn it. My only option is to throw it in the trash. Now I will try to figure out what to do with my newly-thawed steaks. Maybe they ill go in the fridge and I will order pizza. Thank god I don’t have guests coming.

  • Buggy Software

The communication between the Joule and the app leaves much to be desired. When trying to set the timer, it often is unable to do so, especially if the temperature of the water hasn’t reached it’s set point.
After selecting “stop Joule”, the app “hourglasses” for a long time (minute). I usually give up and just unplug the Joule. The firmware update took multiple attempts and after being told it was updated, I still got the prompt to update the firmware. When I go to settings, it tells me. WiFi isn’t connected, but when I select troubleshoot connection, both WiFi and Bluetooth indicate connected!

While I like using Joule, when this one breaks (it’s my second), I intend to try my luck with another manufacturer.

Hi there, We are so sorry for this disappointing experience. Very soon we will be running a beta for our Joule by ChefSteps app users to use the Breville+ app with their Original Joule and we would love for you to be in it if you're interested! • Not entirely truthful

I’ve enjoyed using the Joule for three years. But from the beginning the promise of access to many cooking guides and recipes that they will be adding new ones and updating the old hasn’t happened. The app will take you to the ChepSteps website for more recipes but you have to pay an additional subscription fee for access.
Now with the new Joule turbo out it seems this original Joule is going to be abandoned. The greyed icon for the app has been in place for 7 months, that’s an indication this product is not being supported. This was an expensive purchase and as long as the machine functions the Breville Co should maintain support and fulfill its promises.
