Has great potential, takes time to figure it out

There are two GREAT things about this game: first, each time you play it, you make some progress, even if it’s just some experience on your heroes and leaders. You don’t have to start over from nothing every time like in some games. Second, you aren’t playing AGAINST other players. There are no bullies destroying your stuff just because they think that’s fun, like in despicable games that even brag “loot other players” as a reason to play it. Grrr. I realized there’s a third GREAT thing about this game, very different from many other games that I deleted: the PLAYER controls the risk and reward. You aren’t forced to go deeper and deeper, or faster and faster, until it’s impossible and you lose. Here, you CHOOSE what challenges you face. I love games where you gradually improve your power as you play harder and harder situations, and this game has that. But it is VERY gradual, TOO slow, in my opinion. I played it for five weeks and still got slaughtered on level 1-13, so I gave up and deleted it. But because of the GREAT things about the game, I reinstalled it and started over, avoided mistakes I made the previous time (like spending gems on anything other than levels), and in three weeks I can handle 1-20. By 5 weeks, I had two 100th-level leaders and defeated level 2-60 with one of them. I changed my rating to 4 stars, there are still some things about it I would change. Update: I now estimate I would have to play the game every day for FIFTEEN YEARS to get a force strong enough on all five leaders to have ANY CHANCE to defeat 3-39 and Tower-Normal-31. This just makes me want to give up, delete the game, and never play it again. Not sure if I will. Rating dropped back to 3.

Has great potential, ultimately frustrating

But that said, it’s still TOO slow, and that keeps it from being a great game. It’s always frustrating to find a halfway-great game, play it awhile, and figure out that it’s only HALFWAY great.

Has great potential, ultimately frustrating

I love games where you gradually improve your power as you play harder and harder situations, and this game has that. But it is VERY gradual, TOO slow. I’ve been playing it a few hours a day for about two weeks, figured out early that you have to replay the same level a couple hundred times before moving up, and I’m still getting pounded on level 1-5. Going to each new level as it unlocks them would be suicide. It seems to have 180 levels, from 1-1 to 6-30. I’ve been playing for HOURS per day for FIVE WEEKS while gradually building my forces, and now I can handle 1-11, but I get SLAUGHTERED if I try level 1-13. I wish that games like this, with so many good ideas it has, would fix the design flaws they always seem to have. It’s always frustrating to find a halfway-great game, play it awhile, and figure out that it’s only HALFWAY great. [Updated to be less harsh, revised rating to “halfway great”.]

Had great potential, ultimately ruined by bad design

I’ve been playing for HOURS per day for FIVE WEEKS while gradually building my forces, and now I can handle 1-11, but I get SLAUGHTERED if I’m stupid enough to try level 1-13. I give up; I’m deleting it as garbage now, a worthless terribly-designed game, despite a lot of good ideas it had. The last straw was spending a couple hours scraping together 15 gems so I could increase the “+14% experience [max 100%]” that a Storm had, and it not only wasted the gems but REPLACED the experience bonus with something absolutely worthless. That’s not even the worst time it wasted all the gems I’d managed to scrape together, taking the gems and giving me garbage. I’m sick of it. Deleting the game and looking for another. Rating changed to show how I feel about it now.

Overall great with a few problems

(I always look at “most recent” reviews before trying a new game. Currently there are only three in the last four years?? Anyway...) I love games where you gradually improve your power as you play harder and harder situations, and this game has that. But it is VERY gradual. I’ve been playing it a few hours a day for about two weeks, figured out early that you have to replay the same level a couple hundred times before moving up, and I’m still getting pounded on level 1-5. Going to each new level as it unlocks them would be suicide. Maybe I’m doing something wrong that I haven’t realized yet. Anyway, I have a suggestion: I have no idea what “Allah SMOKing yah, Allah snow Yoda” means, but I have to hear it over and over and over, every time I look to see if a samurai is worth hiring. I can’t even tell what the other people are saying, at all. Please add subtitles in whatever language the iPad is set to (not needed for slimes and animals), and please consider only playing the sound for a particular unit type ONCE per battle. That would improve the gameplay to five stars.
