  • My favorite game in the App Store!

Apple user since 08 but have never left a review so here we go... I have had this game since May 2018. It is September 2019 and I’ve done over 1500 of the puzzles, never using any real money to play. I’ve seen a lot of people complain about having to buy tokens. With enough patience it’s possible but I do have to agree that the tokens to coin ratio is a bit of a smudge on an otherwise phenomenal game. Right now I’m sitting on over 105,000 coins and have completed all of the packs but like 2 of them but now I’m to the point where I can do one puzzle a day most days and that’s really disappointing, unless I open one a day and then don’t actually play for about a week. I appreciate the daily prizes and the doubles for watching the videos, but on the Paris and New York packs, you have so few 10 tokens or below, it takes you months to get enough tokens to cover them all. I have to say, I enjoy the color ones even more than the black and white one and I hope you guys release more of those levels. You guys have done a great job with this game, and I’m not sure what’s different about this game in comparison to the other nonogram games, but this is my favorite. Keep creating more level and I will continue to keep playing!

  • Money Hog! 🐷

Waaaay too token orientated with limited options for getting tokens without payment!!! Asking for money ALL the time !!!! A complete turnoff!!!!! Sure, you get some free tokens per day, but these are hardly enough to play even one game! You can watch ads for a few more tokens, but again, may not be enough to add up to playing a game! Although they offer ways to get tokens free by completing some vendor ad requirements- I've tried some of these & I NEVER received my tokens- so it was a waste of my time!!! All this particular game is designed to do it tease you with a little, so that you become a buying machine for tokens!!!! BUY, BUY, BUY MORE TOKENS!!!!! This is the mantra of this game!!! It's Especially irritating when you finally have enough tokens saved up for a game & the puzzle turns out to be a simple one!!! I enjoyed this game in the beginning, the designs are cute, BUT NOW ITS a TURNOFF. The coins are useless & serve no purpose for me, & you can't turn them into tokens- which are the only thing you can use to buy a puzzle! The tokens are too hard to get without payment, & even if you have tokens, the amount needed to open a puzzle is ridiculous!!! Frankly, there are too many other choices out there for pixal logic puzzles that don't have these issues for me to bother much with this particular version!!! Don't waste your time or money!!!!!

  • Finally!

A wonderful logic pic cross puzzle! It's got some good challenges but also not impossible to beat. The color puzzles are a nice change and challenge! The format is nice too! I really love this game and have been playing it for a couple years. I love that there's awesome updates too!

A couple of wishes though, I wish you could exchange tokens/gold for coins/ green tokens to play games as I don't often need hints and have a lot of gold racked up. I also feel likes there's a lot a lot of ads even for a free version. I don't mind the watching ads for more levels but sometimes really long ads pop up when I win a level and it can crash the game. I wouldn't mind a pop up picture ad but the videos always cut off music and take forever to get to the next level and I find myself closing the game instead of continuing to play. ( Side question what ads disappear when you buy something? All of them or the banner or? I was unsure. I'll gladly buy something if the video ads go away at the end of levels! )

But for real this game is awesome!

  • Awesome game but a few suggestions!

I absolutely love this game and I have consistently played it for months! It is challenging, but not too challenging and I thoroughly love it! My biggest gripe about this game is that when you finish a puzzle pack, you don’t get any token rewards for it. This was extremely disappoint when I spent months working on the World’s Biggest Puzzle, expecting to get some kind of reward for finishing it, and I got nothing. It would just be nice to get a token reward for completing a puzzle pack so that you have some to get you started on your next puzzle pack! Next, I think that for the daily reward, you should be able to watch an ad everyday to double your reward, not just randomly. Sometimes I only get to double my daily reward once every week, if that, and it would be nice for that to be a consistent opportunity! I love this game and it is one of my favorites, I just would like to see those few changes be made!!

  • Updated based on dev responsiveness!

Edit: originally I gave two stars, but I’m updating my original rating because I’m impressed by the devs. They actually seem to have listened to all our feedback, and they’ve instituted changes so it’s now totally feasible to play without purchasing any currency directly (just watching a few ads). Thank you guys so much for listening to our feedback, and thanks for the awesome game!!

    Original review below:
I loved this game, would check in nearly every single day and play at least a level or two. You used to earn 10 tokens on the first and second(?) check ins in a row, then increasing up to 20, 30, etc. On the last day, you earned 40, so that with the normal 10 you got daily, you would have 50 - the maximum amount needed to pay for any particular level. Now, they’ve changed it so the maximum you can get logging in is 15 - meaning you can get a total of 25 at once per day.

They’ve effectively changed it so that you can no longer afford the most expensive levels without actually spending real money in the game. Since the cutoff for watching advertisements is 8 tokens earned daily, you can no longer play every day if you want to afford the expensive levels. It’s very easy to get to the point where you only have the expensive levels left - now, anything over 33 tokens will have to wait.

Honestly, it’s so disappointing. I loved this game.

  • Great game if you ok with pay to play.

This is my second logic puzzle style game I downloaded and, initially, I was very happy because this game offered more challenging puzzles. Fast forward a few days (depending on how long it takes you to solve the puzzles and how often you play) and I noticed I ran out of tokens to unlock puzzles. I got confused because I had so many coins from solving puzzles. Tokens are used to unlock hints. “Ohh... Well I don’t want hints. I want to keep playing.” So I see this icon to get 10 tokens by clicking Facebook and posting on my page. Long story short, I didn’t get any tokens, I complained to development team, got a nice apology, they updated their “known issues” section, still no tokens, and now they are ignoring my request to escalate. Developing company doesn’t care about customers. If they have an auto reply their response will probably say something along the lines of “We’re sorry to hear you’ve had problems with Picture Cross.” Lol also these games don’t have an undo function if you accidentally click on wrong row or column. This game is designed for apple pens or thin tip stylus. Look for another developer. Uninstalling right after I hit send.

  • Perfect Picross

This is the most perfect any free picross game can get. Of course the game has ads, and the token system can be annoying sometimes, but the game is completely free and they have to make money somehow. I never NEVER buy any micro transactions but this game was so good I just wanted to support the developers that much. If ads really bother you, if you purchase any item at all, every ad disappears (you can still watch an ad manually for extra tokens) which means you get your purchased item(s) and all ads taken away as a bonus.
The only downside that I can possibly think of is the token system. You need tokens to unlock a level to play and they refill slowly over time. Completing some levels earns you tokens, and if you log in you also get some, but in the earlier packs you just blow through tokens so quickly it can be frustrating sometimes. Overall though, I really enjoy this game and I can’t recommend it enough if you love picross.

  • Predatory spam from attempting to earn tokens

I really enjoy this game, however something strange happened when I tried to earn tokens from taking a survey. The survey I attempted claimed to be for KFC. The actual questions in the survey had no substance nor anything to do with KFC, and at the end of the question it requested contact information. I put fake information except for my email, in case I needed to receive an email to get the tokens. It then redirected me to some other site and asked for more info, and ultimately I gave up and did not earn any coins.

The next day, I started receiving emails from Judicial Watch, an ultra-conservative right wing nonprofit organization. I unsubscribed immediately, but kept receiving emails from them. I have unsubscribed multiple times, to no avail. Not once in that process was Judicial Watch mentioned, and I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to collect emails in such a misleading/concealed manner?

I’m wondering if anyone else has had this same issue, and also requesting that the developers take more care in what kind of advertisements they put into their games.

  • Not Even Microtransactions Let Me Play More.

I love almost every bit of this game. The mechanics, the personality, each and every puzzle, and all the little details in the art. It’s super fun to play, I just wish I could play it more. The token system really made things hard on how much I can play the game, considering I need to wait to play or I pay. And considering the wait time on tokens has a max limit of 10 tokens, that means you can’t play any puzzles that have more than ten tokens (which could be all that’s left, meaning you have to wait for the daily tokens the next day). I even paid ten dollars for 1500 tokens, but those only lasted a little under half a week.

I just want to play your awesome game more, but the token system keeps me from doing that. Even paying doesn’t let me play whenever I want. This is the one blatant issue I have with the game, and I would really appreciate it if tokens could at least be replenished to twenty tokens or something (you would have to wait in-game to get ‘em, though). If possible, just try to make getting more puzzles not so much trouble to get.

  • Overall bad

I love playing nonograms. I would consider myself to be extremely good at it. I play them 24/7.

Actually playing the game itself is fun. It’s just everything else that isn’t. The whole solve one nonogram to unlock the a part of the puzzle seems fine, and I can understand why some people like it. But I personally don’t, and it’s hard to zoom in on a certain piece you want to do. I would try and zoom in and accidentally press a piece I didn’t want to do and accidentally use my tokens to play it. I would much prefer have levels instead. Tokens itself are bad. For some levels, there’s a timer to see how long it takes you to finish the puzzle and you will use that amount of tokens for how long it takes you to finish. The “pause”button isn’t even a pause button. It’s literally the button that looks like the settings. The only way you know it’s the pause button is because it says pause at the top. The puzzles are deceptive. I would consider “hard” levels to be super hard. Most puzzles force you to buy hints too. You look at a puzzle at every single angle and there’s literally not even one move you can make without having to buy a hint. It forces you to use coins. The game mechanics could be a lot better too. I could keep going on and say at least 8 more problems but I feel like I’ve gone far enough. There’s definitely better nonogram games you can get.

    Developer Response

We're sorry to hear you've had a problem with Picture Cross. 1. There's a confirmation dialogue before unlocking any puzzle - but we will look into how the Map View interface can be improved, particularly for the larger puzzle packs. 2. The timer you're seeing is the token recharge timer, it indicates the length of time until a token is added to your pool (if you currently have fewer than 10 tokens). It doesn't affect the unlock cost or completion reward. 3. All the puzzles in the game are solvable without using hints, by application of Picture Cross playing strategies. Please refer to the in-game help system (and video therein) for further details. We hope this has helped, but if you need any further assistance with the game please don't hesitate to contact us through the in-game help system or by email at support@appynation.com
