Version History of Density Altitude +

2.8

August 9, 2024

Bug fix: When using Density Altitude outside of cell service, Density Altitude+ now again correctly uses Onboard barometer. The issue was a recently added iOS privacy setting. If you're a current user and are still not prompted to allow the app to access the barometer, you can go into Settings->Privacy & Security->Motion & Fitness and enable access for Density Altitude+ there. New Major Feature: Location Search! You can now compute the Density Altitude and all other atmospheric data at any point on earth, from anywhere on Earth! Either type in you location search or Long Press on any location on the map. Use this feature to see what conditions are at another location for educational purposes. Since calculations are based on weather data fetched from a weather API and not on actual physical readings, the results won't be as accurate as in the default "Instrument" mode, but will be as close as possible. The same goes for elevation data, which is based on an elevation API and not GPS altitude as it is in Instrument mode. Bug fix: Parts of the display were being clipped on iPhone 6s. This is now fixed. Improvement: General display polish Bug fix: humidity was sometimes not properly applied when certain units were chosen. This is now fixed. Improvement: Updated for iOS 15. - New weather source: Our previous weather information source (used for temperature and dew point) is unfortunately going offline. The good news is that we have upgraded to an even more accurate and feature-rich weather source, which will make some exciting new features possible that we're currently working on.  Reach me anytime at densityaltitude@rateofclimb.com for support, questions or suggestions. - New weather data source. Since the forecast.io weather API will be discontinued in January, I've done a lot of research to find the most suitable replacement going forward. This version uses Climacell which provides global, hyperlocal weather data. My hope is that it will provide even more accurate data. I've done a lot of testing, but let me know with the in-app feedback button if you have any issues. Thanks! Thanks for all the support, and reach me anytime at: info@rateofclimb.com. * New Manual Mode feature: By default Density Altitude+ functions as a real-time instrument, showing you the current conditions where you are, using on-board sensors, weather data and a lot of physics. Version 2.2 adds a Manual mode which is useful for planning or trying out scenarios. Tap the slider icon in the top right of your screen to toggle Manual Mode on or off. Once in Manual Mode, you can set Altitude, Temperature, Dew Point, Station or Absolute Pressure and/or Altimeter Setting. The app will dynamically calculate all other values. Toggle back to Automatic Mode to get your local, current conditions. I always welcome feedback and feature requests. Contact me anytime through the email link in the settings menu, or at info@rateofclimb.com

Description of Density Altitude +

Instant and location accurate Density Altitude calculator/instrument app for iPhone and iPad that also finds relative air density (RAD), altimeter setting, relative humidity, specific humidity (grains/lb) and more. Super useful for pilots, especially in the backcountry. Many other uses for engine tuning, racing, sports, etc. * Seamlessly integrates weather data, GPS and your phone's onboard barometer to quickly and accurately calculate your density altitude, altimeter setting, relative air density, and more. * Takes humidity into account in all calculations, making it more accurate than the typical dry bulb approximation formula used by AWOS/ASOS, etc. * Works anywhere. Great without cellular connection as well, which makes it all the more useful in the backcountry and far away from ASOS/AWOS stations. * Location Search: Find atmospheric data (Density Altitude, etc.) at any point on Earth, from anywhere! Data Sensed and Calculated (all calculated with humidity): * Density Altitude * GPS Altitude * Temperature * Altimeter Setting * Absolute Pressure * Dew Point * Relative Humidity * Specific Humidity (grains/pound) * Air Density * Relative Air Density (RAD) * Dyno Correction The quickest way to get your Density Altitude! On the iPhone 6/6+ and newer iPads, it will use the built-in barometer and GPS. If you're in cell range, you don't need to supply any data. If you're out of cell range, all you need to supply is the outside air temperature. Designed not to need an internet connection, so it will work anytime and anywhere you need it. Great tool for pilots, drag racers, engine tuners, golfers, or anyone who needs to conveniently find their Density Altitude, Altimeter Setting, Relative Aid Density (RAD), Specific Humidity or Absolute Pressure. No ads or in-app purchases. We love feedback! • Great for car racing

    Great for car racing.
  • Better GPS Accuracy

This has always been a great App, but depending on location, GPS altitude for me could sometimes be off. With this new App update, 2.6.3, it provides increased satellite accuracy. Every reading for me is now completely accurate, every single time. An excellent App now made better!
  • GPS elevation

GPS elevation doesn’t always update on the fly reliably. Example you check at bottom of a hike. Then gain 2,000’ elevation after hike. Check app again. GPS altitude/elevation doesn’t change. Don’t see how it can be accurate given this occurrence
