The new Aadhaar app (replacing mAadhaar) is designed to share less data — QR-based selective disclosure instead of full photocopy — but it has some practical drawbacks:
*1. Privacy & security concerns*
- Still centralizes your ID on your phone. Privacy groups flagged risk of offline data leaks if phones are compromised, and past instances where Aadhaar data surfaced on dark web have created trust issues.
- Expansion to private-sector offline verification raised concerns about consent and profiling.
*2. Face authentication friction*
- New app requires face authentication during setup to prevent misuse. It fails in low light, with older phones, or for elderly users with worn biometrics.
*3. Exclusion & accuracy issues*
- CAG 2022 audit and civil society groups noted persistent database inaccuracies, biometric authentication failures (40% exclusion in one Delhi survey cited), which hits daily wage workers, migrants and elderly the most.
*4. Phone dependency*
- No smartphone = no app benefit. Rural users, feature-phone users, and people who share a family phone are left out. Battery dead / no internet = no verification.
*5. Bloatware & performance*
- When govt proposed pre-installing the app on all new smartphones, Apple, Samsung and industry body MAIT pushed back citing device security, compatibility and extra production costs. Users also worry about storage and background data use.
*6. No real redressal improvement*
- Critics say the new app doesn't fix core issues: how to correct data, how to revoke access after you share, or how to report misuse quickly.
*7. De-facto mandatory feeling*

If you use it, best practice: use selective QR share only, don't store PDF copies in gallery, keep face auth locked, and keep physical Aadhaar as backup.

Profile Refresh Issue Causing 14-Minute Waiting Time
Whenever we add profiles and make changes to the Aadhaar details, we have to refresh the page to see the updated changes. However, when we switch to another profile, the refresh does not work properly, and we have to wait around 14 minutes to see the changes.
Please fix this issue so that we can refresh the profile as many times as needed without triggering any 14-minute waiting time. The changes should reflect immediately when switching between profiles.

Unreliable mess—resets every update and fails when you need it most!
I managed to install and register, but that’s where the smooth experience ends. Every single time an update drops, the app completely wipes my progress and forces me to redo the entire registration process from scratch.
This time around, I am completely locked out, endlessly stuck at the SIM binding step. My network connection is rock solid, and my active SMS pack has plenty of balance, yet the app stubbornly throws the exact same error: "unable to send an sms."
It’s an absolute tragedy because the core concept is genuinely useful. But thanks to shockingly amateur design and profoundly incompetent maintenance by the development team, this app is utterly untrustworthy. It always bails out and abandons you right when you need it the most. Fix your engineering!

Critical Design Flaw in Aadhaar Lock & Biometric Lock Recovery
I appreciate the effort to modernize the Aadhaar app, but there is a critical design issue in the current implementation.
If both Aadhaar Lock and Biometric Lock are enabled, the app creates a circular dependency:
* Aadhaar Unlock requires Face Authentication.
* Face Authentication fails because biometrics are already locked.
* Biometric Unlock cannot proceed because Aadhaar remains locked.
This leaves users with no recovery path within the app.
The previous mAadhaar app allowed recovery using OTP, but the new authentication flow has removed that fallback. As a result, users who enabled both security features can become locked out of managing their Aadhaar security through the app.
I have already reported this issue with detailed technical information and screenshots to the UIDAI support team. I hope the development team reviews this regression and provides a recovery mechanism such as an OTP fallback or another secure alternative.
Until this is resolved, users may have to disable important security protections just to continue using the application, which defeats the purpose of providing these security features.
