Apple Wallet?

Great app overall, but one feature that would really elevate it is Apple Wallet integration. Being able to store my MetroCard directly in Wallet for quick, one-tap access would be a game changer — especially when you’re rushing for a bus or train.
This isn’t a new concept either. Apps like Opal (Sydney), myki (Melbourne), and even international transit apps like Transport for London and Clipper (San Francisco) have all nailed Wallet integration. Adelaide Metro shouldn’t be far behind.

Just use a metro card atp

I wanted to use this so I don’t have to bring a wallet with me but I’ve found the app consistently breaks either singing me out when trying to scan the horrible QR code design or it not scanning looking like a nob whilst everyone else is behind me waiting to get on

Please add password support or at least copy and paste!

Love that the app makes buying tickets easy. I don’t love typing in a complex password without copy and paste. Can you please integrate with phone password system??

Also my wife has had to enter her payment details twice on the same day. Seems like a bug.

Poor user experience

Doesn’t accept modern email suffixes such as ‘.consulting’ so was unable to register with my work email address. ‘Enable biometric’ is grayed out in main menu but appears in password menu and works there. Adding Apple Pay doesn’t work. It all feels badly put together and hasn’t had a proper UAT.

Ridiculous Password Requirements

The password requirements are absolutely ridiculous and only serve to reduce security. It has long been proven that password LENGTH and not complexity provide better security than obscure requirements. Developers: search “XKCD password complexity”; your password requirements are hard for humans to remember and easy for computers to guess. Consider using a password complexity library such as “zxcvbn”. All the current password requirements tell us is that whoever wrote the bizarre requirements has absolutely zero clue about information security. I’d even hazard a bet that the requirement was copy-pasted from some outdated system requirements document which is 20 years outdated.

To fix it, remove ridiculous complexity requirements and use a modern library (like zxcvbn) to calculate compute complexity (ie how long it takes a machine to brute force the password). Make the various forms work seamlessly with password managers and built-in device password generators. These will generate far more secure passwords than a human trying to manually satisfy some BA’s ignorant perception of password complexity requirements. Grrrr.

Also seems like I can’t use aliases on my email address (I’m guessing, can’t sign up, no reason why). This thing is 20 years outdated already.

Trying again several years later: still unable to paste a password in. I don’t know what my password is, I just copy+paste from a password manager. It’s a complicated password which I’m not going to type out by hand. So I can’t even log in. Still. After how many years??

FAQ

What can I do with the Adelaide Metro Buy & Go app?

The app allows you to purchase tickets and passes for Adelaide Metro's bus, train, and tram services. You can buy single trips, day tickets, and multi-day passes. Once purchased, tickets are stored in the app and can be activated before you board to generate a QR code for validation.

What types of tickets can I buy?

You can purchase Regular, Concession, and Student tickets for single trips and day trips. Additionally, you can buy value-packed 3-Day, 14-Day, and 28-Day passes. These tickets cost the same as metroCARD fares.

How do I use my digital ticket?

After purchasing and activating your ticket within the app, a QR code will be generated. You need to scan this QR code on a smart validator as you board any Adelaide Metro bus or tram, or when transferring to trains from Adelaide Railway Station.

Can I use this app for group travel?

Yes, you can activate up to five tickets at once to travel with others. This makes it a convenient and affordable option for family travel without the hassle of parking.

Is the app free to download and use?

The app itself is free to download. You will then purchase your transport tickets and passes through the app, with the cost being equivalent to standard metroCARD fares. There are no additional fees for using the app.
