strong female character
Legendary Arcade creator
So I gave this a shot and sure enough..hooked like a fish. 🎣
Beautifully Crafted but some perspective issues
The movement is entirely by mouse, probably so that tablets can have almost identical movements. I would have preferred to move the character with keyboard.
The soundtrack seems to be heavily inspired by Queen, which is quite welcome.
Definitely worth trying.
What?
Looks great, iffy controls
Subpar
One of the only reasons I do arcade.
Must play
The music throws me off so bad
Great game, very original.
Cool concept and atmosphere
Panzer Dragoon + Valensia OST = 🤩
🎮Think of SEGA’s Panzer Dragoon- flying through the air sometimes on a mount firing at the enemies that come flying your way. The same beloved arcade feel but the controls can be funny on touch screen. I HIGHLY Recommend using a controller like I did, I promise you will enjoy the game much more.
👾Add in a skill-tree [not really “skill’s”, but a few cosmetics and extra HP which you will absolutely NEED to survive the end] and a banging soundtrack and you get this. I literally thought I was listening to music from Queen until I found the games soundtrack on Spotify.
🕹The graphics are nothing to do cartwheels over but the backgrounds are very pretty without being distracting. Enemy models are smooth and the bosses look pretty sweet. It’s everything you’d expect from an arcade game.
I loved everything about the game. If you liked Panzer D., Space Harrier, anything in that category I think you will love this [IF you use a controller!].
There is a sudden difficulty jump at stage 4 and by stage 7 the enemies will become a lot to deal with. I’d say this game is for somewhere between casuals and hardcores.
A proper old school arcade game
Once you properly get the hang of the controls you realise just how well designed this is as a touch screen game. I doubt it would be as satisfying with a controller, but playing with touch screen is the real point of the gameplay.
Wonderfully wacky and imaginative visuals and a quirky addictive, soundtrack from (a very Queen-inspired) Valensia drives you on as you play (and replay) through the levels.
It is an arcade style game so there are no save points. The idea is that you learn more of the wave patterns with each play-through and get just that little bit further each time you play. This is the intentional style of the game, exactly like arcade games from the 80’s. You also get plenty of little rewards the more you play, and the more stars you collect, which help make later levels more manageable. You’ll be grateful of these upgrades as you progress as it really gets frantic in later levels.
It’s great to see a modern interpretation of 80’s Yu Suzuki classics. Very addictive whether regularly playing for a quick 10-15 minutes or more!
New Space Harrier successor by its original studio!
What's not to love?
2 bad things - why on earth doesn't it save your progress? You have to begin from the start each time, this has to be changed. Also, the reticule gets lost in the action, a lot.
Sad to see a negative review here, this is leagues above most of the ex IAP games on the service.
Game is not progressive or unlockable
Cool game but overly difficult to avoid damage
Outside of that, great potential here.
Yu Suzuki’s Arcade Legacy Continues!
Taking inspiration from his own SEGA Classic “Space Harrier” and a little bit of Panzer Dragoon thrown in, this excellent fun new title from the mastermind himself is a joy to experience.
At first the game can feel a little difficult to progress beyond around Stage 6, but stick with it as you earn more stars and increase Princess Arch’s health and unlock different weapons. With a ton of replayability, game modes, a fantastic soundtrack from composer Valensia and an arcade experience that makes you want to keep returning, Air Twister receives full marks from me!
Here’s to more amazing gaming experiences from Yu Suzuki, and of course #LetsGetShenmue4!
Fabulous, clever, beautiful
It’s not-quite-Space Harrier, with not-quite-Queen soundtrack. Echoes of Seal and Kate Bush come through as you work with elegant swipes and frantic slashes. It’s like dreaming of an 80s arcade, a flashy one like the Crystal Rooms in Soho.
This is a game about nostalgia and graceful movement emerging from a head-on bullet hell.
It’s not for everyone- avoiding bullets is hard in this perspective, and the screen gets really full.
Like a Jeff Minter game, you end up relying on the sound because there’s just so much on screen.
And no, you can’t save your progress. You amass permanent upgrades and better weapons, which make the early levels much much easier, so you play those to build up health reserves to face the later baddies and bosses.
It’s old-school but not as harsh as the real thing, it’s a dream of a game.
If you don’t remember the 80s, this won’t provoke the central emotion of the game, but I hope you enjoy it.
If you can remember the 90s, do you have any idea where I was most of the time?
Xx
