About

Mid-workout, sweaty, phone mounted on the bike or propped on the treadmill and your watch a forearm's length away, you get about a two-second glance at it. Alisio turns that glance into a clear answer: which zone you're in right now, confirmed by a tap on your wrist the moment it changes. You set this up once, in Settings: your age, resting heart rate and a calculation method. Karvonen factors in your resting heart rate along with your age, so your zones reflect your actual fitness level rather than age alone. Simple works from age only. Both start from the same maximum heart rate estimate, the Tanaka, Monahan and Seals formula (208 minus 0.7 times your age), which holds up better across a wider age range than the older 220-minus-age rule. From the Train tab, pick one of five zones, from easy recovery to full effort, set a target time and start the workout on your Apple Watch. The Watch reads your heart rate live through HealthKit and taps your wrist the moment you drift out of the zone, when you settle back into it and when you hit your target time. Skip the countdown with Free Time mode, which tracks your effort with no target time. You don't need your phone to start a workout. Turn the Digital Crown, the dial on the side of the case, to pick a zone and go straight from the Watch. Alisio remembers the zone you used last, so starting without your phone takes barely any setup. Once your iPhone is back nearby, your profile syncs to the Watch on its own and the Live view on your phone mirrors what the Watch is measuring, calories included. Finish a session away from your phone and the summary waits in a queue that delivers as soon as you reconnect, matched to the right workout automatically. Every finished session lands in History with the zone you trained in and the calories you burned, ready whenever you want to look back. Alisio reads heart rate, active energy and workout data from Apple Health with your permission, and only to calculate your zones and show your live metrics. That data, along with your workout history, stays only on your iPhone and Apple Watch. It never touches a server, and no one outside those two devices sees it. Alisio doesn't need an account or a login. The only information Alisio asks for is your age and resting heart rate: age alone runs Simple, while both run Karvonen. Alisio is a training tool for working at the right intensity. It's not a medical device and doesn't replace guidance from a doctor.
