Not worth even if free

Very bad player and also support link not working neither website want my refund

Doesn’t stream local music but plays music iTunes/Music won’t play

If you have a full MQA DAC or you stream Tidal or Qbuz it is useful.
If you have MQA, DSD the free version will at least play the music.

The free version has useful EQ presets.
It plays FLAC easily so purchased files from non-Apple stores will play.

Their site says that it will STREAM local files; IT DOESN’T. Their help pages show copying music to the application on the iPad.

Use VLC to stream from a local wireless hub or a connected wireless drive. It’s not elegant but it works better for the music that it can play or decode which is MOST file types. VLC will change the sample rate for HD music.

Amara Play is easier to use than Apple Music, iTunes but you need disk space to store the music. It will change the DAC’s sample rate to match the music which Apple doesn’t.

The playback controls are unresponsive. It feels like it is crashing.

It will play MQA without the purchase but at CD quality and it takes forever to translate it.
It will play DSD but it converts it to PCM very, very slowly.

If you have FLAC music and don’t want to convert it and then move it iTunes Music this is convenient.

If you want to play music from an external drive or networked drive then go elsewhere. VLC or the Stratospherix apps are worth looking over.

Waiting for a NEW revised Software update

Sonic Studio are slow to update and keep abreast of changes to streaming platforms; point in case being Tidal who’ve dropped MQA in favour of FLAC. The TIDAL native app supports 48k 24bit decode of content and higher but it appears Amarra play does not which is disappointing. Please keep your subscribers informed and at least provide a timeline for updates.

Adjusting volume on AP causes AL to crash!

Either AP and/or AL needs fixes!

Terrible

Doesn’t do anything and has the worst EQ I have seen my entire and I have seen a lot of EQs as a professional music producer.

What makes matters worse is that Apple refuses to issue a refund by saying “not eligible for a refund”. In other words, we’re only interested in the commission we received and we do not care about the paying customers that get ripped of by this garbage app. Don’t waste your money.

Abandonware?

The app hasn’t been updated in over a year. The developer seems to have left it behind. It doesn’t seem to work properly on updated iOS anymore. A shame since I could have used a functional eq on Tidal.

Remote app doesn’t pair

Used to work now never does and support was unhelpful. Way over priced for a non working remote.

Great sound using external DAC

There are very few alternatives to using the Tidal app (for streaming Tidal) so thanks for being one of them. Great sound quality using with my external DAC. But navigating Tidal could be updated. Thanks

Doesn’t work on iPhone 15

Used to work on older iPhones but quit working on my iPhone 15. Opens when there are no songs in the Amarra folder (fule fokder). When I copy and paste songs into the Amarra file folder, the app doesn’t open.

This Is Actually The Go To!

So I gave it five stars because for iPhone it is actually the only app with maybe one exception that has an equalizer that is spot on. With that said I will say to the developers, please allow the ability to add more equalizer settings from the options offered on the MacBook Pro version. I want to be able to swap out one from the phone and replace it with those on the Mac. Make that possible and you will have the absolute best equalizer app available.

Doesn’t work. No support link.

Loaded up a bunch of files on my phone. The app opens and immediately crashes. The support link in the app store is bad.

Please update the app!!!

It used to work great with my mqa files but after the most recent update everything loads super slowly. it takes a couple seconds to just even load a song before it was instant. 🙁

Just adequate

Bought this to patch the deficiency of the Onkyo HF player which can’t currently handle MQA files. As such Amarra Play works fine in this respect but certainly doesn’t look as polished (in fact it looks darn right amateur) and it’s handling of album art is abyssmal. Most of the albums currently within the app do not display the album art despite it being embedded or as an accompanying file. Sound handling is decent but it lacks a polished appearance.
UPDATE after two months - album art can easily corrupt and disappear.
Cannot successfully play gapless tracks. Apparently this is a long standing issue going back years and they still haven’t fixed it. I am therefore downgrading to one star. For all but basic playback of hi-res audio files I cannot recommend this app.

Amarra Play with Tidal useless

Purchased the Tidal add on for Amarra Play and it does not work. Amarra crashes on my MacBook any time I try to use AP Tidal with my iphone and ipad. Opened a ticket with developer and they provided no working solution. Do not recommend purchasing Tidal add on.

Response from developer

The TIDAL add on for Amarra Play is working fine in both stand-alone mode and when paired with Amarra Luxe. Make sure when paired with Amarra Luxe that you are using Amarra Play as remote control for what's in your Amarra Luxe library. Please contact support@sonicstudio.com for more assistance.

Simply the best player for Tidal on iPhone/iPad

I have a Hidizs S9 Pro USB DAC dongle for pushing hi-res (Tidal) music from my phone/computer into a very high quality tube headphone amp. Until I found Amarra, nothing played Tidal music anything close to bit-perfect from an Apple device. And No, Tidal player itself plays MQA pretty poorly on the iPhone in comparison. On Android it is no problem using Hiby player which plays Tidal bit-perfect. But I really didn’t want to switch from my iPhone 12 to an android type phone. Amarra sounds great on Apple devices, maybe not quite as good as bit-perfect MQA players on Android. But pretty darned close. Not only is it way better playing to wired devices but equally good to Bluetooth IEMs. I have a set of Bluetooth 5.2 IEMS that sound as good as some of the $100-$200 wired IEMs I own. I’m simply blown away at the sound quality of Amarra Play on idevices. Every time I use it, it puts a smile on my face. The only thing missing is being able to access favorite Tidal playlists in My Music and ability to play Artist Stations. Maybe a future update will include it. I’m hopeful

MQA decoding 만 지원됩니다.

MQA 파일 인식은 됩니다.
하지만 정작 Output은 Native MQA가 아니라 PCM 출력이네요. Native Output 이 아니면 아무런 의미가 없죠.

Does what is says it will do

As my title states, the app does what it says it will do. Allows me to equalise Tidal on my iPhone. The sound quality is good. Would have given it 5 stars if the equaliser was a bit more sophisticated (only has 4 bands and no ability to accurately specify the exact values for frequency, gain and Q settings). Overall pretty good.

Opens fine, then crashes when used….

Please fix this.
