About
The display shows the current Sun's true bearing known as its Azimuth. The direction of Sunrise and set are shown in green and red respectively. The Bearings screen shows the current Azimuth; the direction of the Sun's Shadow and its Altitude in the Sky. The Events screen shows the important sunrise and set times with their azimuths and the time of local Solar Noon which is the time that the Sun uniquely faces due south in the Northern hemisphere and due North in the Southern hemisphere. With this information the prudent navigator has an additional source of directional information that is reliable and constant. This can be used to independently verify electronic and analogue compass devices to ensure their reliability by comparing their readings with that of the Sun.
