Now at least my art photos are organized

I, like I’m sure many others, have thousands and thousands of photos stored between my phone and iCloud, and they’re totally unorganized. But now, with this app, at least I can make a small dent in that chaos— this app makes it easy to organize all of the photos I’ve taken of art I’ve liked over the years! It’s pretty seamless. Much smoother than throwing my pics into a reverse image search on Google. I’m not a huge fan of AI, but I think this is a good application— it’s not eroding my creativity, just replacing the drudgery of photo organization.

Too many photos?

I’m interested in my art photos but more as a way to catalog numerous art shows by others in my home town of Auroville India. They have a group of studios that will have many shows annually and they aren’t being recorded properly. And I feel the need to archive and document the growth and evolution in this fairly unique culture. I was wondering if this would be a system that could be used, even though they are not “known artists”. I like the fact that it could be phone based. I’ve looked at expensive art dealer software that is for handling art seen as keeping track of inventory and accounting purposes. This seems better.

Ideas?

Laggy with large libraries

Unfortunately with a large library (>1000 scans) the app is almost unusable, it takes 10 seconds to open up any of the scanned artwork from the library. Otherwise a cool app but not worth the purchase until it is rectified.

Not there yet

I have wanted this app to exist for so long, and it almost works— but, the AI component is a disaster. I take thousands of photos of exhibitions I see, at museums and galleries, and uploaded about 100 from various contexts as a trial. The app’s AI misidentified nearly all of them, and the troubling thing is how confidently it misidentifies! It adds all the details of other works by other artists. The option exists to replace it with the info from a photo of the wall label, but it doesn’t replace it altogether, it corrects the basics (artist, title, media) but leave all kinds of other incorrect info intact, leaving you with a jumble of accurate and inaccurate that you’d have to check like a hawk and manually type in corrections. Promising premise— I really, really wanted this— but it simply isn’t useable right now. In fact, if you value attribution at all, it’s downright dangerous. If I could turn off the AI altogether and just use it to catalog my images, I’d be delighted!

Very disappointed. I used the trial to import 3 pictures; on all 3, the museum was incorrect. In one case, the picture had been in MOMA for almost 60 years. The other two had been in their museums for 20 years or so. These were permanent collections, so not loans from the museums the app listed. Titles on two of the three were also incorrect (third was untitled). I’ve deleted the app, very disappointed. BTW, it’s not an AI failure. My iPhone photo app identified all three correctly.

this is like a letterboxd for photos - so why is it paid? it won’t let you add more than 3 photos without asking to pay. yall have to pay yourself which i get but use ads or something. i deleted this right away.

Near Perfect

Really cool app fulfilling a really great purpose and function. My only complaint is that it takes up a lot of power and data and can be a little laggy. However, with something so unique and novel, that’s not that much of an issue. I can’t fault an app for not being perfect in the first iteration, especially when it’s the only of its kind. I’m sure that over time the coding and development will only get better.

Art Scan is awesome

I visit a lot of be museums and this is so much better than just having photos of favorite artworks! Sonoften I forget the name of an artwork and this app not only provides the name but great background information. It makes some mistakes but overall is a terrific resource.
