The Instagram video made it sound like it would take the problems and apply it to the slope you’re looking at riding. It doesn’t, it’s literally just an overlay of google maps with avalanche forecast.
Clunky and not useful
The app provides information that can be sourced far more effectively from other resources. Aims to provide a sense of safety in an ineffective way for any backcountry user that has the slightest clue of what’s going on. Gaia or cal topo provide much better mapping and better information given they are not limited to small areas.

Snow Shoeing/ Winter Hiking
Used it a ton over the winter on trails and it was an awesome addition to the “toolkit”. Easy to use and navigate. Loved it!

Confirming my snowpack assessments
Been loving using this app in conjunction with my initial stability evals, cool to have the confidence with some unbiased confirmation before I skin up. Offline map and route tracking is also great to have once I lose signal. Great work!!

Don’t Waste Your Time
Doesn’t actually have much new info and the UI is terrible. OnX and others have more advanced features and mapping. This app just combines danger ratings with slope angle. Don’t buy the hype.
This is the future of avalanche safety!
This is the first tool I’ve come across that is specifically built to tackle the avalanche problem. Mapping apps are a mess with 20 colors telling me what the slope is doing under the snow, this shows what the snow is doing. Love that the risk shading changes depending on snow pack, snow problems, etc. This app is going to change the game!

Conservative to point of useless
If you are looking for an app to help you avoid avalanche terrain completely, then this is great. I get that in a sketchy pwl Colorado snowpack this is the appropriate mindset.
However, for backcountry skiers who enjoy stepping out into steeper terrain occasionally and are dealing with problems that are more localized or aspect/elevation dependent, I find the terrain advice much much too conservative (telling me to stay off N facing terrain when the days problem is wet loose on solar aspects for example). I like the concept, and I get why an extremely conservative approach was taken, but I don’t think this travel advice applies to what the majority of BC skiers want, and there is too much nuance and liability to make an app like this work for those cases without a step change in how these algorithms work

This app is what the backcountry community needs
I’ve been backcountry skiing for 45 years. Accident and fatalities are a common event among experienced and professional backcountry skiers. It’s clear to me the avalanche training and the backcountry community culture has serious shortcomings. Aspect Avy is on the right track to take the guesswork out of winter backcountry travel.

Good for decision making, bad for navigating.
It has great tools for beginner to make decisions but it lacks basic navigation tools that are essential for planning a tour. You can’t change the map layers, create route/waypoint, or import files.
Pricey app for info you can get for free
Such a pricey app for info you can get for free. Download avy forecast app, read your forecast and use cal top or other free mapping resources to measure slope angle and aspect. I could see this getting a lot of skiers in trouble, trusting an app with information from one source. Get the knowledge, get the training, don’t rely on an app. Use an inclinometer app and compass.

While nothing can take the place of education and situational awareness. AspectAvy is the first avalanche technology to give objective data to avoid danger zones. While most snow safety equipment helps once you are caught or buried AspectAvy can keep you from being caught in the first place.
