AstroCompass: Star & Sky Map

AstroCompass turns your iPhone into a star navigator: point it at the sky to identify stars, planets, constellations and satellites, plan tonight's observing, and catch ISS passes. The core of AstroCompass is usable entirely offline, so you can be in your favorite remote location and navigate the night sky! SKY LOCK: LET THE STARS SET THE HEADING A magnetic case, a car roof or a steel railing can pull a compass off. AstroCompass watches for signs of magnetic interference and warns when it detects them. On a clear, dark night, Sky Lock photographs a patch of sky, identifies the star pattern against ESA's Hipparcos catalog, and moves the map to where you are really pointing. The shift shows how far AstroCompass's map was from the star-derived alignment. Sky Lock corrects AstroCompass's own map, not iPhone's system compass. Hold steady under a sky with visible stars; a lock depends on the conditions. SEE WHAT'S ABOVE YOU Stars, planets, constellations and galaxies, computed live for where you stand, by day or by night. Search for a star, planet or constellation and AstroCompass guides you to it. Slide the thumb control to reveal stars fainter than your eyes can see. ALL 88 CONSTELLATIONS Every constellation, line by line, with 21 shown in Sidney Hall's engravings from Urania's Mirror (1825). Chinese constellations are included as a second sky culture. SCIENCE AND SKYLORE, WITH SOURCES Explore object pages with sourced facts, selected photos and Skylore stories. Live distance and light travel time are available for the Sun, Moon and planets. Skylore tells how cultures around the world have seen the same object. Every science fact, Skylore story and Nerd fact carries its source. TONIGHT A stargazing score from darkness and the Moon, plus meteor showers, eclipses visible from where you are, conjunctions and full moons, with a reminder on the evening of the big ones. Nova Watch shows where to look for T Coronae Borealis and can alert you when it erupts. SATELLITES The ISS and other satellites, computed on your iPhone from orbital elements, with pass alerts. MADE FOR THE DARK Red night mode and larger text options. No account and no sign-in. ASTROCOMPASS PLUS AstroCompass is free to download with 3 free Sky Locks; only a successful lock uses one. AstroCompass Plus adds unlimited Sky Lock, stars to magnitude 9, every galaxy and tracked satellite in the catalog, more nebulae and star clusters, rise alerts for saved objects and every Nerd fact. Plus is an auto-renewing monthly or yearly subscription, each with a one-week free trial for new subscribers, or a one-time Lifetime purchase. Manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple Account settings. AstroCompass is a stargazing companion, not a navigation instrument.
