Base Functionality Fine; Needs More
Though latency with the unit is a bit more than I prefer, the core functionality of setting cooking profiles and changing settings in this app is tolerable. However, it lacks what many reasonable minds would consider to be base functionality on a couple fronts: there’s no way to set temperature alarms and receive notifications, and there’s no Apple Watch support. Why build-in a multi stage cook functionality without setting notifications for stage changes? A simple temperature alarm would be so easy to implement. Rather than adding support for the next product, the developer should add these easily implementable functions.
Meathead may have given this a platinum, but I can’t recommend this app and hardware to others until these functions are added.
Update 2021.04.21: also need dual y-axis on the plot. One for grill temp; one for food temp—they are at different scales.

Terrible
I REALLY wanted to like this app. I replaced my old smoker controller with the SYL-2615 2 years ago because I wanted to be able to control the grill temp and see the food temp from an app. Every time I have used this since I have regretted that decision. First, I had to change my WiFi password because the device doesn’t support special characters in a password... Oh and not to mention only uses 2.4 GHz. For the price that’s completely unacceptable. Regardless, I kept it because I wanted to like it. When I was still able to connect my controller to my WiFi the app was sluggish and would frequently tell me my device was not available. It’s a truly awful user experience with confusing menus and spelling errors. Since updating my wireless access points I have been unable to connect my controller to my WiFi network. I have tried disabling 5GHz, changing the password to be as basic as possible (8 characters alphanumeric only), attaching a separate 2.4 GHz only AP to my network, and it just. won’t. connect. I know what I’m doing, I have work experience as a network administrator and held a CCNA. I shouldn’t be having these issues with a $250 “smart” device in 2021 (or 2019 when I bought it). I get that in the world of industrial controllers this is probably considered cutting edge, but there are too many options that have a better interface and cost far less. So while the controller itself is great, the app and the SYL-2615’s WiFi capabilities are trash.

Works well but missing push notification
Works well to check on the temperature but silly me assumed there would be push notifications to tell you when the grill needed attention or food was done. Don’t buy this device thinking it will alert you to trouble.
Overall good app but quirky
Overall app works well. Seems like it’s a bit off in the stability area, alarms don’t always make it through and app just cycles on manual refresh command (more times than not) Would be nice to be able to start program once everything is set up instead of having to unplug to restart. An update to the app to improve stability is needed.

Needs alerts and other improvements
It allows you to monitor and modify the settings, however the alarm function is useless without notifications because the alarm only sounds when the app is open. Would be awesome to have Apple Watch support. It would be a welcome addition to be able to reset the plotting function at any time so I can track when I put the meat on instead of when I turned the unit on. Then I could export the data so I can produce better BBQ over time. I do love that it can track how much the fan is outputting so I can fine tune how much to open the vents. I open them a little more if I find the fan is running too much.
