Full screen junk ads? No thanks

Plenty of options out there. I’m y the one that doesn’t present a giant full-screen ad without an “x” button.

Alerts

Way too many alerts for Auroras that are not in my area. It’s annoying.

FAQ

What does the Aurora Forecast & Alerts app do?

This app provides detailed forecasts and real-time alerts for the Northern Lights. It features an interactive map for aurora visibility, customizable push notifications based on Kp index, and comprehensive space weather data including solar wind and geomagnetic activity.

What are the main features of the app?

Key features include an interactive aurora forecast map with spot-specific visibility, customizable push notifications for favorable conditions, detailed solar wind and geomagnetic data, short-term and long-term space weather forecasts, and SWPC alerts. It also offers educational resources for aurora viewing.

Is the Aurora Forecast & Alerts app free to use?

The app is free to download and use, but it does offer in-app purchases and may display advertisements. Specific features or advanced functionalities might be unlocked through these in-app purchases.

What kind of alerts can I receive?

You can receive customizable push notifications when atmospheric conditions are forecasted to be favorable for aurora visibility. Alerts can be set based on the Kp Index and include daily, weekly, and SWPC warnings and alerts.

What is the Kp Index and why is it important for aurora viewing?

The Kp index is a measure of geomagnetic activity, which directly influences the visibility and extent of the aurora. A higher Kp index generally means the aurora will be more visible and can be seen at lower latitudes. The app allows you to customize alerts based on specific Kp Index thresholds.
