What's New in Australian Geology Travel Maps

2.4.26

June 21, 2026

Further improvements to all popup dialogs on iPads and Macbooks. For practical reasons, reverted iPhone (only) 'Manage downloads' list and Trail/Locations to details full-screen. Fixed problem with iPad (only) basemap drop-down list having a grey background with some maps. Improvement to locations .csv backup on MacBooks.

Best Prospecting App

Really useful app for prospecting in Australia. I especially appreciate the privacy settings and the amount of data available. The tracking feature is excellent, without it, I probably would have gotten lost 100 times already! There’s still some room for improvement: the overall design and interface could really use a fresh, modern update. I’d also love to see an option to easily show/hide trails on the map. Overall, a great and very useful app for anyone out prospecting!

Great app - ‘contact us’ currently not working

Great app. As a geo I have an ungodly amount of screen time using this app and love it; can’t really fault it on anything I use it for. Recently bought a subscription to the VIC gold part for some prospecting but it’s not obvious what the green and orange areas on the map mean as a first time prospector. It would be handy if I could click on the area and it has a name and what you can do there i.e. can you prospect here, like the little coloured occurrences do on the resources database. Tried to use the contact us page on the website but currently not working for me, not sure if this is just a me problem or not.

Response from developer

Sorry for the late reply. I don't get alerts from Apple with this system. The 'Contact us' was out for a while - is fine now. The polygons with the gold map are mining leases and retention leases. Download the appropriate VIC data layer to get all the details.

FAQ

What does the Australian Geology Travel Maps app do?

This app provides interactive offline geology and terrain maps for field use. It uses GPS to mark your location and allows you to download maps for internet-independent exploration. The maps are rich with contextual data like roads, towns, and geographic names.

What are the key features of this app?

Key features include offline map access, GPS tracking, the ability to record trails and mark locations, overlaying multiple map layers, and exporting/importing data to GIS or Google Earth. It also offers specialized prospecting maps and can announce geological boundary crossings.

How much does the app cost?

The app operates on a subscription model. There are different subscription tiers for general use, prospecting in Western Australia, and gold prospecting in specific states. All subscriptions include a 1-week free trial and cover usage on all your iPhones and iPads.

Is this app compatible with all devices?

The app is designed for iPhones and iPads. However, iPads without SIM sockets do not have built-in GPS hardware and therefore cannot determine your location in the field.

What are common use cases for this app?

Common use cases include geological fieldwork, prospecting for resources, land surveying, and general outdoor exploration where reliable offline mapping and location tracking are essential. It's particularly useful for navigating remote areas in Australia and New Zealand.
