Rubbish

Absolute rubbish, don’t waste your money like I did…. DELETE!!!

Response from developer

This App is for and by pilots. Pilots love it. It looks and acts just like the instrument in their panel, except it has more features and you can use it in a car, or the back of an airliner. Since you did not have any specific complaint, we can only assume you are not familiar with aviation altimeters.

UI problems

I like how it gives density altitude, and how it emulates a real aircraft altimeter, but the button for changing the OAT seems to be hidden under the “gear” button you click to change the preferences, and there seem to be other buttons below the bottom of the screen.

Adjusting the OAT and QNH is a problem, the number selectors seem rather haphazard. It seems to make me select crazy temperatures like 108°C or minus 15°C when it’s plus 15°C (I use Celsius) so I have to really make sure it selects the right sign. The number selectors really need fixing

So, not good

Well done !

As a pilot, this is exactly what I wanted for educational purposes.
It is an electronic altimeter made to look exactly like an altimeter in an airplane.. well done. It does exactly what it is dessigned to do and nothing more.

Response from developer

Thanks for the kudos Chrissey! They are much appreciated. Actually, the app does a bit more than a panel altimeter: Density Altitude, Altitude Alerting, smart Oxygen Alarm, setting QNH by 4 different sources, etc. Enjoy the App!

Horrible

I mean, the UI hurts my eyes, how can this app be so highly rated with all the great altimeter apps around?

Response from developer

This reviewer must be thinking about GPS-based hiking apps. avAltimeter looks and acts exactly like the pressure altimeter found in every real aircraft control panel. Pilots love it!

FAQ

What devices does avAltimeter work on?

avAltimeter requires a pressure sensing hardware, available in iPhone 6 and later, iPad Air 2, Mini 4, and all iPad Pro models. Earlier iPhones and iPads do not support this app.

How accurate is avAltimeter?

No, avAltimeter is an app and not an FAA-approved flight instrument. It has not been certified and cannot be used as a primary flight instrument.

How does avAltimeter get barometric pressure settings?

You can manually set the Kollsman window or field altitude. Alternatively, the app can automatically obtain the latest barometric pressure from the closest reporting airport every 20 minutes or upon significant location changes, requiring internet and GPS.

Does avAltimeter have ads?
